What a cute story! It really sounds like the makings of a novel. The picture is beautiful, too, and helped form images in my mind when reading.
Thanks so much, @morodiene! That is an interesting thought that it could be the makings of a novel. It kept wanting to be a longer story, and I kept reining it in. I've never ventured past short fiction, but maybe some day!
