daddy please

“Daddy please!” cried Racheal, “Please stop hitting mummy!!”
But not even the relentless cry of his wife nor the pleas of his crying daughter could touch his heart…
Blow after blow, he kept on hitting her. When his hands ached, he kicked too. This was going to be the last time he would take such nonsense from her, he thought. He had to remind her who was the boss in this house!
Nneoma cried, she begged, she tried shielding herself from her hitman transformed husband but it was useless. Uzo wasn’t always like this. Uzo was the kindest man she had ever met. But since he lost his job, he started drinking, staying out late and hitting her.
Her heart broke for her daughter who had to witness this. She tried to escape him. She knew she had to get out of the house! Whatever had possessd Uzo wasn’t susceptible to tears, cries seemed to give him more strength to hit her.
With whatever strength was left in her she pushed Uzo and ran towards her daughter who was at the door of the room. Her mad dash took Uzo by surprise, he lost balance and fell on the floor. Nneoma carried crying Racheal into her arms and ran for the exit door. Uzo stood up too and gave chase.
“Nneoma come back here!”, Uzo bellowed from the bedroom. Nneoma ran on, her body hurt but her quest for survival kept her going. As she got to the living room and was about going for the door Uzo came onto her. He tried to grab her but instead he pushed her. Nneoma screamed, she tried to shield her baby but they both fell. Nneoma heard Racheal scream, she tried calling out her name but her lips weren’t cooperating. She reached out her hands to search for her but then she felt something else and that something was making the floor wet.
“Why wasn’t Racheal talking or even crying?”
“Why wasn’t Uzo hitting her again?”
“Where is my baby?”
“Why was everywhere so quiet?! ”
Her hands made contact with flesh, she was relieved! She had finally found her baby. She tried helping herself up using her hands. Then she noticed it. The liquid on the floor wasn’t water…It was blood!
She saw the shocked look on Uzo’s face as he was staring at her baby’s still body on the floor, then her world turned dark.
