Elizabeth never knew her father. Just the glimpses of him... A hazy recollection of him beating her and her mother. A memory that has played in her mind a thousand times.

She could never put a face to his persona. May be, subconsciously she didnt want to see the face of the monster.

She always used to ask her mentally unstable mother about what happened to her father and her mother always used to slap her on her face saying, “He left us. He abandoned us. He used to beat us. You remember that. Right? I was a good mother who always used to protect you. Just remember this.”

Everytime she got the same answer from her mother. “But why does she never tell me anything else besides this. Why does she hit me? May be my father abused her so much that she doesnt want to remember him. May be that is also why she got mentally ill. May be thats why she beat me”, she always used to come up with some logic as an explanation to her miserable circumstances.

At the age of 49, her mother passed away. Elizabeth’s whole life came crashing down. She was the one who had been her rock for years and now she was gone..

She decided to repaint the house and sell it because so many bad memories were attached to it. While she was repainting the house, she discovered a secret door to the basement. “But we don’t have a basement”, she whispered to herself.

She opened the door that produced a rather squeaky noise. Filled with horror and fear she took the stairway that led her to a room with a skeleton. She tried to scream but couldn’t as she slowly approached the skeleton she found pictures and notes lying around it. “Thats my father”, she said.

In every picture, she saw her father playing with her and adoring her. And then she stumbled upon few documents. These were medical reports from 3 certified doctors who had declared her mother mentally ill and a danger to her child since the child was being brutally beaten up by her mother repeatedly.

“My father wasnt a monster. My mother was”, Elizabeth kept repeating these words before locking herself in the basement only to be never seen again.
