Violet Eyes.... Chapters 3 and 4....
She is halfway home when she feels that strange feeling again, she just can’t pinpoint it, but she knows she is being stalked. This has been happening on and off for several days now, but she has never sensed them this close before. She hides herself in the shadows and remains perfectly still hiding her presence. Perhaps whoever it is will go on by and she will finally see who it is that has been stalking and following her.
Chapter 3
The Lycans
She is halfway home when she feels that strange feeling again, she just can’t pinpoint it, but she knows she is being stalked. This has been happening on and off for several days now, but she has never sensed them this close before. She hides herself in the shadows and remains perfectly still hiding her presence. Perhaps whoever it is will go on by and she will finally see who it is that has been stalking and following her.
It is several minutes until the figures of two are made out in the darkness. They are not familiar to her. She does not recognize their scent, but she can tell they are Lycan. “Who would send Lycans to track her? no wonder they are so hard to lose. They can track her scent like bloodhounds.
“Dam, they must know I stopped moving “
Moon continued to watch as the two stopped and then split up in two different directions. One is coming straight in her direction and the other has swung quite a distance out and around to get ahead of her.
“So, they are tired of tracking and closing in for the kill, are they? going to attack from the front and the rear at the same time, well only if I let them” she tells herself.
Moon hoping to take the one on her tail by surprise decides to go on the offensive, attacking him head on. The wind has shifted in her favor and the one heading to cut her off should not be able to catch her scent. She is hoping he don’t notice what she has done until it’s too late. She is still a young elder and one Lycan is hard enough to handle much less two at once.
When she locates her target, she decides to charge toward him at top speed, hoping to take him by surprise. She removes her cloak for better maneuverability and to keep the other Lycan thinking she is still in the same spot if he does catch her scent. Moon runs in the first Lycans direction as fast as she can. She breaks through the brush just in front of the first Lycan,
“Good,” she thinks to herself “he has not transformed yet she may have a chance!”
Moon pulling her blade, slices him as she passes. The Lycan lets out a scream, while whirling to face her, Moon can see he is already in mid transformation. She makes another pass at him, he dodges catching her on the arm with half formed claws. Blood running from the wound, but she can’t stop now she must dispatch this one before the other gets here. This time the Lycan is on the defensive he strikes at her again, she dodges.
“Dam!” … she yells.
He is now in practically full transformation. She decides to throw one of her blades at the him striking him square in the chest. He leaves out a great roar bending over in agony, gripping his chest. This is moons chance jumping up onto his back she brings her other blade across his neck. Realizing one swipe is not going to be enough, she swipes the blade several times repeatedly, severing his head from his massive body, The Lycan drops to the ground in a massive pool of blood.
She has not even had a chance to catch her breath when the second Lycan comes barreling towards her from the darkness in full transformation.
“Shit!” … she yells unable to get out of the way in time.
She braces for the impact. The Lycan hits her broadside sending her flying off into the brush. Before she can regain her footing, he is on top of her raking his massive claws down her back. Moon cries out in agony. A pleased snarl comes from the beast. She rolls over to face her attacker. Coming face to face with him she can feel his hot angry breath on her. He snarls pausing, savoring the moment. He knows he has caught his prey.
Moon realizing, she still has the blade in her hand. In a final effort she slashes up and across his eye attempting to blind him before he can bite her. The massive beast rears back his claws clutching at his face. The Lycan swats at her catching her on the shoulder sending her rolling several yards across the ground. As the Lycan stumbles around in shock and pain, Moon crawls to the other Lycan lying motionless on the ground and pulls her other blade from its chest. As she braces herself for the Lycans next attack, but instead, to her surprise, he retreats disappearing into the darkness all the while whimpering in agony.
Chapter 4
Battered
Moon sits on the ground chanting a healing spell to staunch the bleeding, but it will be a while before the wounds fully close they are deeper than she thought but will heal quicker than a human would due to her Vampiric abilities. Moon notices the downed Lycan has transformed back to its human form. She pulls up his head to see if she could recognize him, but he is a stranger to her. She notices he is wearing a medallion she pulls it off breaking the chain. It’s a double headed serpent. Moon remembers the vision of her ancestor Lexona sometime before the great sealing she had told her in the dream that she should beware the double headed serpent. Moon put the medallion in her coin purse on her belt she will look it up later right now she must leave this place before the other Lycon comes back with reinforcements. Moon attempts to get up off the ground the bleeding may have stopped but her wound on her back and upper arm feel like they are on fire. It’s all she can do to walk.
“well hasn’t this just been one hell of a night” she tells herself.
Moon arrives home it’s been a very busy night, she is ready for a hot bath and some rest. Some of the wounds are deep and hurt like hell. The shirt is sticking to the dried blood She is careful when removing it, she does not want to re-open the wounds. The wounds seem to be healing better than expected thanks to her Vampiric abilities. She slips into her bath.
“Ohhh this feels so good on my battered and sore body” she tells herself.
Moon is in her chambers performing healing magic on herself again, the wounds from the Lycan are only scars now in another two days the deepest ones will be gone. She must take care when she goes out to hunt or travel now. The Lycan that marked her and has gotten away has her scent. She is now marked as prey. He is not likely to give up till either one of them are dead and she would rather it be him and not her. Moon is beginning to wonder, did someone put a bounty out on her in retaliation or is it something else? There must be some reason those Lycan’s were tracking her. Perhaps she can find an answer at the Tavern. She knows it is a place of secretes and where many congregate.
Being very cautious Moon took a different route to the Tavern. She walks in the door looking around. Not many travelers here today. She heads to the bar scanning over the crowd for anything out of the norm. Tapping some coin on the bar, asks for a blood brandy. The bartender hands her a glass and pours the spirits into it.
“Have you seen any strangers here bouts? perhaps with a scar over one eye?” she asks.
The bar tender looked around then replied, “not lately but that don’t mean much, we get lots of travelers in here this time of year.”
“Thanks” she tells him laying the coins on the bar, walking to a secluded table off in the corner she sat with her back against the wall, just as her mate Liam had taught her. If anyone were to come in she did not want to have her back to them. From the way the Barkeep replied she could tell there in fact has been a man with a scar that has visited the Tavern recently. She figures to sit tight and see if he comes back.
Moon has been at the Tavern sipping on Blood Brandy’s for about 3 hours when a familiar scent floats in. A tall man comes through the doors. He is tall and well-built his silver hair is tied back. Over his eye is a recent scar. The man stops as he too picked up a familiar scent, … her. He looks around the room and cracks a wicked grin. Moon’s senses all go into overload. This is the Lycan who attacked her, marked her. This is his human form. She must remain calm. The man walks to the Bar ordering a whisky. Paying for his drink he turns surveying the room. Leaning back on the bar he sips his drink. When his eyes connect with Moon’s he stops, raises his glass and nods his head acknowledging her presence. She can feel his piercing stare, all her senses tell her to fight or flee, but she knows any wrong moves especially fleeing will trigger his predatory instincts. She must remain calm.
He stands there sipping his drink all the while staring at her, He turns to the Bar and orders two more Whisky reds. He pays for the drinks, then turns back around facing Moon. He walks over to her table and sets both drinks down. Pulling out a chair he sits across from her. He pushes one of the Whisky reds over in front of her.
“Drink” … he tells her.
More of a demand than a statement. Moon reaches for the cup and puts it up to her lips and takes a sip then sets it back onto the table. A slight grin forms on the man’s face.
“Are you scared?” … he asks her.
“Yes” …. Moon replies.
