Fiction flow 002
Despite my disorientation when I awoke I immediately took off, pulling onto the highway without even shoulder checking. I heard a loud honk from a semi truck in my rear view mirror-- get out of the way! Beep beep beep beep beep!
I swerved back over to the shoulder, hitting the brakes as soon as the double semi was past. Nearly going off the road, I scraped the side of my car and smashed my right side view mirror against the guard rail.
Had I lost the peace of mind that I claimed the night before as I impulsively took off for my home on a drive through the mountains? My adventure had only just begun but already I needed to assess the damage.
I turned off the engine and walked around the front of my car to discover my right side mirror partially detached, hanging by wires. I could probably use duct tape for now, I had some in the trunk and stuck it back on. I looked down over the side of the road, down the side of a mountain.
I wanted this, I needed this. It is going to be alright, a little difficulty never stopped our ancestors. They just blasted the mountains with dynamite to build roads and railroads. Before that travellers hitched their wagon to a horse and had to traverse the rocks and rivers with wooden wheels.
We have it so easy. I will be fine. Before I got back in my car I checked both ways and waited as several cars raced past. I got back in my car, started the engine and turned up the radio.
My adventure had just begun and I just needed to take it slow. Where is the next town?
Check the mirrors. Signal, and let's go...
