Finding Redemption Part 2

After putting down the words of my general, I felt touched at how a single act of cruelty can change a man's heart and mind to this community. He's wasn't the only one though, the colonel sitting next to him have a story to tell from the look on his face, a scar that runs deep into his skin, parting the left part of his face in two equal half diagonally.

He moved closer to me, staring at the fire, he was stoutly built and ready to take on anything coming from either far or new, the soldiers here have credited him with some strange and heroic act of bravery to him in time past. He has saved his fellow force men from the heavy battle field two times.

He made to start his story but finds it hard to the words together, I dare not look into his face, it's a horrible look, more like a pirate.

"Every July 26th was to be my wedding anniversary, my wife was looking to it and am fully prepared too. I just won't let her down."

I tried looking up a bit to see his happy face, forcing a smile here and there, reminiscing on the glorious past.

"So I took her to the foremost hotel in town, beautiful scenery and we have our seat, I owned up to the show and told her how she has been so amazing to me in every way, she was just blushing all through, women do that a lot, it's a sign my sweet talk is dripping into her soul " he said, all full of smiles.

The we started hearing gunshots a normal occurrence here for we live not far from a militia base. I made her hide under the table and try to find what could be wrong, it's true this settlement is divided on the ground of ethnicity, but this shouldn't have happened on my most glorious day, why in God's name is this happening.

They entered in and gave a sporadic gunshots in the air, causing more panick than neccesary. Then they started giving the roll call, the foreigners to one side, the natives to the right hand. Am a native but my wife is not, so I stayed stuck to her. Only for the second in command to the militia come for my shoulder and hit it with a gun butt, I cried in pain, before I could recover I watch him dragged my wife from under the table in a rough way, still unconscious the other one hit me with a another round, and sent me deep into the abyss of nothingness.

The next I heard was crying, my wife was crying profusely, but I was too weak to stand up, I saw her in blood, weak and tired. The soldiers came after some minutes of her profuse tears and cleared us out, she was taken to a hospital nearby, there my wife couldn't be seen anymore, she committed suicide for she couldn't bare the shame.

There and then I knew I have to take the gun and get her the redemption she never had.

Till we end those bastards son, am not putting my guns to rest.".
