Logan Film Review: Super Sadist, Dramatic End
The plot of the X-Men franchise and Origin Wolverine may be a bit confusing. Especially because of the time setting that has a back and forth groove. For Wolverine's own solo film for me it has never been very impressive, except after the latest installment at the same time the last time this is Logan . This film really becomes a climax and makes the audience stunned, amazed, even ending with emotion.
The film takes place in 2029, with Logan looking much older and worse. The condition of the old mutants also turns out to be similar to normal human conditions as they age. Invasion and lack of passion. Even worse because Logan spent his time drinking, while he was still caring for an aging Xavier professor. His ability to recover was not as good as before, which also raised questions in the minds of the audience. Because he said Logan had a virus.
After previously told in the film X-Men Apocalypse, the Transigen project was carried out by the Essex company to present new mutants as deadly weapons. Now the chaos finally really appeared and returned to haunt Logan's life. A child named Laura, who has the same ability as Logan, is removing adamantium claws. And of course, the Transigen theory team must hunt down the mutants because they are still referred to as their 'failed products'.
Logan or Wolverine's battle is now far more violent than all the films that appear. This claw with adamantium material is displayed more in tearing the opponent's 'flesh'. In fact, it is said to be the most sadistic superhero-themed film we have ever witnessed. I am a little doubtful whether this film can be enjoyed by all audiences because the scene is too gory.
But director James Mangold is smart enough to play the emotions of the audience. He brought a lot of dramatization of angry scenes, how the abomination of mutant hunters treated mutants like animals. So, the audience can feel the anger of Wolverine who blindly beat the enemy mercilessly while fighting. Maybe this is the reason why the blood-drenched scene can still be comfortably witnessed by some viewers.
Although on the other hand it is somewhat controversial because the actor Laura Kinney (X23) himself is still very young, aged 11 years, must play an action that is arguably more suitable to be played by adults or at least teenage characters. But acting is nothing less than the role of Dafne Keen when dealing with cameras. This young talent is also quite flexible in Latin and English speaking dialogues, and also even for extreme action actions.
In this film the audience also feels the closeness between Prof. Xavier and Wolverine like a father and child. Indeed, more or less 17 years, actors Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart played the two central figures in the X-Men franchise, but this time they looked more closely and full of drama.
Logan's film might also succeed in changing the audience's stigma of superheroes than we have ever seen before where the conflict came, then the superhero managed a war strategy and won. In this film, the audience will feel a long adventure that is hopelessly endless which is truly clear.
Logan's long story shows a duration of 2 hours 17 minutes, usually you will only get in Oscar nominated films. Or maybe this film has been more evolved to show something truly different. Not only the impression of brutality and the dark impression of the battle that was presented, but the plot of the story that was presented very dramatically touched the sympathy of the audience. For myself when watching Logan's movie, maybe this is like an X-Men franchise that mixes with the Mad Max, OldBoy, up to, Terminator movie story concepts.
Unlike the superhero films that currently exist, both from DC and Marvel, when you watch Logan's movie you don't seem to be watching super hero movies anymore. This film is not just fun or seems fun with magnificent visualization effects, even far from the concept of stunning costumes.
For those of you who have not watched a few sequels to the X-Men franchise and Origin Wolverine before, it really doesn't matter. Because the action of the song that is very adrenaline spur is already quite stunning. You can still enjoy this one film as a separate story. But surely you will know more about the ins and outs of the mutants and the background of each story if you have watched the entire sequel to the X-Men movie.
