Sprouting the mung beans
Looking for some utter healthy vegetarian source of Protein?
Ahannn, how about sprouts?
Light, fresh and full of nutrients - with no side effects.
So I sprouted mung beans to eat as my Friday snack in office. Although its a two day process but it is totally worth the time and almost little to no efforts. It is just the timing of the steps that need to be taken care of if you want to eat your sprouted mung beans on a particular day.
It is said that a cup of sporuted mung beans gives you 3 grams protein. So after quinoa, sprouted mung beans is my second favourite vegan protein food.
What you need?
Mung Beans
Water
Air :P
A cotton cloth
A utensil
So basically yes - the only component which has a cost here is mung bean themselves. The sprouting process requires all free stuff - so yaaayyy 3 grams of free protein.
The step-by-step process
--Soak the mung beans into water in night time. You can do it anytime you want but I would say night time is better - its like free waiting time because you are not actually waiting but sleeping. lol :P
--Then next morning after 7-8 hours of soaking, mung beans would be puffed. Just wash them and wrap them in a cotton cloth. After wrapping the mung beans into cotton cloth, spray some water over the cloth. Put the cloth in a container and leave it again for as long as you want - maximum 2-3 days. The longer you keep it, the longer the sprout.
Why cotton cloth?
Because mung beans inside the cotton cloth and some water sprayed onto it would make the sprout happen. It would help achieve a perfect balance between air, water, light, moisture and all the factors.
--Check sprouts after 7-8 hours, you will see sprout. Keep it for whatever sprout length you want to achieve.
--Then what? Nothing its just ready. Eat it, garnish it, serve it any way you like. I cut some little tomato chunks into my sprouts to create a perfect moisture balancer in my mouth. I serve it as - mix tomato chunks, sporuted mung beans and salt. And I absolutely love it this way. Healthy and easy.

I love these! Now I might have to do some of my own for this coming week, too. I've never done the cloth method, but seems like a great idea. I usually just leave mine in a jar and rinse and drain morning and evening for a few days until they have sprouted. Whatever the method, they are awesome little nutrient powerhouses! Great during warm weather when you don't want to cook. :)
Oh the jar method works but I think its a little slow since air cannot reach the water and the bean. But whatever works for us :):)
Makes perfect sense! I didn't have any mung beans handy, so I'm sprouting chickpeas this week. :)
Chickpeas and mung beans - same way, great benefits. :)

Always good to have source of plant based protein. I see you serve them with tomatoes - do you put a dressing on them? Or just eat them as is? Thanks for sharing!

Yes plant based protein is best. No I just eat them as it is, without any dressing, just tomato and salt.
