Food Fight Friday - Three Courses, Three Restaurants!
To everyone out there in #fff land that makes
their own food, kudos to you. I am not entirely inept in the kitchen but it sure makes for a better time for me if I just go get food, especially on a Friday night!
I did a little bragging in my first #fff post last week in the comments section about how great my street was and how I have all of these different places to choose from...........Then it dawned on me, I haven't even been to half of them. A creature of habit I found my comfort zones at the first few I visited and never had reason to keep on with the rest. So for my post tonight I thought I would knock a couple of them off of the list and see if any of it made any impression with the rest of you!
Round 1, Appetizer
I started the evening off at a hip and trendy restaurant that specializes in Eastern European food. From what I have heard everything on the menu is good, from the house-made brats and other cured meats to the schnitzel and deviled eggs. I had just gotten home from work, so I ordered a beer. This beer selection is from one of the craft breweries here in town, our beer scene has absolutely blown up over the last decade. It was what I would probably call a tart saison. I really like a sour beer so this was the perfect selection.
With the drink in hand, for my actual appetizer I ordered the bacon wrapped dates with a side of goat cheese. This is fine living. I haven't been this surprised and contented in a long while. The perfect combination of sweet, salt and savory. The crisped bacon gave just enough resistance, the dates in the center had such a sugary glaze and were almost liquefied. The goat cheese, suggested the bartender was also the perfect accompaniment to the dish adding a rich smoothness. I had planned on trying another beer but the two selections I had were just perfect, I left on that note. Don't mess with perfect.
Round 2, Entree
I left the fancy European bistro and rounded the corner. I approached the odd little building that used to house a trolley stop. It is now an American Greek diner. I contemplated getting a gyro plate here but couldn't resist the signature burger. Double pattied and oh, so good. This sucker was the quintessential greasy spoon burger. For accompaniment I had 75 cent can of Pabst Blue Ribbon!
Check two new spots off of the list for me. I was going to go to a third spot I had never been to before but upon sticking my head in it was just a little busy for my taste, good for them! So I doubled back a block to a fairly familiar spot, not somewhere I go often but have been.
Round 3, Dessert
This happens to be a really hopping local coffee spot. Espressos, lattes, baked goods, free wifi, the works, no name brands here. I however am not a coffee drinker, on occasion I'll have a hot tea and that was what has lead me to here before. I did notice that they are flinging beer now from the same local place that my first beer came from. Cool! I'll take one! It was a blackberry wheat beer. It was good, not overwhelmingly blackberry, could use a little more. The two cookies were oatmeal based, really thick and still moist and fresh tasting despite having been baked this morning. Chunks of walnut and dried cranberry were packed inside. Who need coffee when you have cookies and beer!
Overall I had a great time doing this little restaurant crawl. There are many more places to choose from and of course more combinations to try. This should keep my Friday night meals pretty exciting for awhile. So thanks Food Fight Friday for that!

I don’t blame you one bit, I would be venturing down the street everyday devouring meals like those.

I’m my mind, a PBR is a must have with any burger.
Hey this post is awesome @jackofcrows. That’s great you used #fff as an inspiration to introduce yourself to brand new restaurants. I’m certain I’ve never done a dinner like that; appetizer here, dinner over there and dessert at a completely different joint. Thanks a lot for the tour.
@foodfightfriday is on a family vacation right now, I don’t think they’re checking these out but I know they’ll dig the heck out of this one when they see it.
It's all shiney mate!

I’m so glad you got out of your comfort zone to try some new delectables. My husband often complains that I want to go to the same restaurants and order the same dishes. He isn’t wrong, however, it’s such a treat when he forces me somewhere else and I discover a new favorite something or other. This was a perfect food fight Friday post… well done!
Thanks! It was fun free range roaming. What's really wild is I had never even heard of Moussaka until today when I was at that Greek diner where my burger came from. Moussaka! Right there on the menu, I thought, huh. Don't see that everyday............Got home and pulled up the old feed and thought I'd check the #fff post. Moussaka! Ha! Well, it's gone from "huh, whats that," to top of the list must try! Thanks for reading!
The Greeks really know how to do food, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Looking forward to your next #fff entry to see what other foods you discover!
I am stuffed just reading that! Nomnomnom to all of that fancy and unfancy.
I went at it alone but think a few friends could benefit from his style. Keeps the cost down. Picky eaters or spoil sports need not apply of course!
