Evbiobe Festival

Sorry i am not bringing the regular update on my farm report. The birds are fine and growing. They will be receiving their Lasota vaccine by Tuesday and i will be filling you in on that. I want to talk about festival in my home town today.
If you are from Evbiobe in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State Nigeria, you will have noticed these yearly festivals that always without fail thrill everyone.
There is a festival caused "Erwohamaviah" meaning "Our Children have come". Before the festival there is always a warrior display between 'Oviah - Up' and 'Udumu-Down'. The tug of war is between the youths of each section who are entering the age group in their area. The defending champion comes with a bamboo dancing and singing until they get to the center of the town where the tug of war will take place. The leader of the 'warriors' leads them both in songs, actions and controls what they are to do.

Always, it is always Udumu that wins. Maybe because they are located in the slopy side of the draw while Oviah is on the hill side. There dragging the Udumus up the hill will be difficult compared to dragging the Oviahs down the slope.

On that day, you can see someone you have never seen for years as these festivals especially the ones that collides with the age group celebration years (every three years) is done.
