"Kaamulan Festival" The Grandest Indigenous Street Dancing and Float Festival in The Philippines

in #festival7 years ago (edited)

Arriving in a frigid place at 3 o'clock in the morning may be a worse idea especially if you forgot to bring your jacket, but despite the frigging cold climate and the lack of sleep, It was never a snag for me to enjoy my first ever Kaamulan Festival celebration in Malaybalay, Bukidnon. All thanks to the thumping beat of the drums and ethnic percussion from the participants of the street dancing competition that morphed my jaded soul into a lively festive mood.

Kaamulan Festival, from the root word "Amul" which means to gather, is an ethnic cultural festival celebrating the culture and tradition of seven ethnic tribal groups namely Bukidnon, Higaonon, Talaandig, Manobo, Matigsalug, Tigwahanon and Umayamnon. It is also a celebration of thanksgiving during harvest time. It is originally being celebrated every second week of February up to the 1st week of March. But last 2014, Kaamulan Festival was moved to August in line of the celebration of Bukidnon's centennial year as a Province.

We only got more or less 3 hours of sleep since we woke up early to catch all the contingents of the Kaamulan street dancing competition perform along the main streets of Malaybalay. Although tired and weary, it did not stop us from enjoying the rhythmic beating of this lively festival.

We only got more or less 3 hours of sleep since we woke up early to catch all the contingents of the Kaamulan street dancing competition perform along the main streets of Malaybalay. Although tired and weary, it did not stop us from enjoying the rhythmic beating of this lively festival.

The streets of Malaybalay was filled with vibrant hues of tribal costumes of the different tribes that's plunking the main highway where the parade takes place. Each has its own intricate designs that is a reflection of their rich and vibrant cultural roots crafted by their very own tribal members. Watching them thumping into the beat is something you should not miss.

So yes! I am inviting you all, to join us celebrate and witness the grandest indigenous street dancing festival and float parade in the Philippines this March 24th of 2018 at the City of Malaybalay, Bukidnon.

To give you a preview of what Kaamulan Festival is all about, check out the video I made way back 2014. Watch it on Dtube
