"Woman's March" in the USA - Kindly Leave My Gender Out of Your March

in #feminism8 years ago

I thought the marches in the US were protesting Trump, so I didn't take any issue with the peaceful protesters sharing their point of view.

I was a bit confused by it being a woman's march, so I went to Facebook to find out what it was all about.  After asking and asking for the reasons people were marching one attempt to answer my question was posted...

"It is a wide range and people were marching for all sorts of reasons...one was that Trump doesn't objectify and abuse women, thus the pussy hats (didn't DC look beautiful covered in pink!). Other reasons are that he has been vocal about legislation taking rights away from women and believing that women belong barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen (did you ever notice that he doesn't let his wife walk in front of him or touch her in public? So different than our outgoing President who showed oodles of respect for his wife.) Others marched because he wants to take away rights from the LGBTQ community. Others marched because...all you have to do is look at facebook and see what so many women and men posted about why they as individuals and as part of a collective, marched. My heart breaks that I couldn't march today because of the deaths in my family...but I wore my pussy hat and proudly supported those who chose to walk."

What?  If anyone can translate that would be great.    I did look up the "pussy hats" and it is a thing.

My Response to the whole "March"...

Regarding Women's Rights:

I can vote, I can earn, and I have earned more than most men in my career, so I do not want the gov. to manage my wages, I have birth control rights, I can have an abortion if I want to, I can speak freely, I can own property, own a gun, drive, etc. I haven't seen a piece of legislation that impacts any of that.

Great women came before me, and REALLY fought for those rights. So, I don't need a bunch of women who have never even seen oppression out there marching for me. I am more than annoyed they used my gender to wear their "pussy hats" and march.

Here is the mess these socially conscious marchers left behind.

Wow.

I did not vote for Trump, in fact I have vehemently been against him for decades. But I have always made my advocacy agasint him be based on truth. So many people today, like the author you quote, have to make up things to be against him. For the record, I have often seen him touch and let his wife lead the way (as if that matters). And wanting to stop making others pay for medical treatments that you choose, is not taking away anyone's rights.

I have found that when people make up things to argue with, it is because the actual issues are beyond their grasp.

For the record, he didn't call all Mexicans rapists, he didn't say he wants to ban Muslims, he doesn't (if you go by the high levels he has promoted women to in his cabinet and his businesses) think women belong in the kitchen. And the only women he said anything about grabbing are those particular women who offer themselves to be grabbed by celebrities.

My problem with him is that he profits off the gambling and alcohol addictions of others.

I didn't vote for him either, and I am almost never offended. In this case, I was not at all happy they are using my gender to fight whatever their little battle is about.

Regarding gambling and addiction, I kind of put it in the same category as abortion. Why not have a safe environment, because those activities are going to happen anyway.

I understand the right to protest but there should be legislation in place to counteract the pollution and destruction of the environment and resources protesters leave behind when they are done excersizing their right to peacefully assemble. To leave a huge mess is not an act of peace, it is a deliberate act to use resources to essentially have others clean up after them. To me anything that leaves behind destruction is more properly a roit. I am just shocked this hasn't been addressed before given all the recent protest. There's a fine line between assembling for your rights, protesting for your voice, and rooting to make a point. Scorned women be a furious bunch but haters gonna hate. Shouldn't be another's job to pick up their waste left behind. Littering is not cool even if your wearing a pussy on your head.

"even if your wearing a pussy on your head."
now thats poetry ;)
