INTRODUCED A NEW FEED TO MY SNAILS TODAY
Hello steemians, in my quest to fully understand the giant African snails and how best to fast track their growth, I formulated a new feed formula for them.
I took into consideration of the fact that something to help their shelling faster and give them energy and some micro nutrient for a balanced diet.
This is quite easy.
Prior to this time, I have been storing egg shells from by baking, cooking and got some form a friend too.
For tips on how to start a snail farm, you can go to this link: https://steemit.com/farm/@gloeze/starting-a-snail-farm-in-nigeria-introduction from my previous post.
The contents of the feed are
Ijebu garri ( cassava flakes)
Egg shells
Peanuts skin (Groundnut peels)
These are common items around us.
The garri was a replacement of corn shaft. After washing the starch from corn for pap, that shaft is dried properly for preservation purposes. But in a case where it is absent, garri can be used. This gives them energy due to carbohydrate content.
Egg shells are washed, dried then crushed for preservation. When needed, I just grind it using a small dry blender to make it smooth and powdery.
Finally the groundnut peel is rich in micronutrients and vitamins. I had to grind it to powder as well for a suitable consistency. These are peanuts skin from my home made fried peanuts.
I mixed the garri, egg shell powder and the peanuts skin powder into a mixture and added a little water to make it soft and easy to eat by the snails.
Guess what? They love it. If it was something they do not like, they all move away but this time they are just eating. I can tall it is tasty by the way they are not moving about but rather focused on their feeding.
I will try out more recipes in due time, just need to see how this one improves their growth and shelling in the next few weeks.
Thank you for reading.

How profitable is the snail rearing business
It is very profitable only that it is a long term business. The quantity you have also matters.
Thank you @molokwu for stoping by.
I've never considered snail farming because I've always assumed it will take forever for them to grow to marketable size. But I got interested few days ago when I saw a manual on snail rearing with my lecturer.
I still have a whole lot to learn though. But I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.
I apologise for my ignorance, but to what purpose do you farm snails.
