Feathered Friday - Woolly necked Stork vs Dachshund
As a bird lover, I've been spotting @keithboone's #FeatheredFriday all over Steemit lately so would love to be part of the action and share with you some of the birds we find here in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa.

Dove surveying the territory after feeding on wild bird seed.
We have attracted many feathered species over the years by planting indigenous trees that bear berries or fruit such as the wild plum tree, pigeon wood tree as well as papaya trees which we share with our feathered friends and the mischievous monkeys that travel through our garden daily.
A regular feathered visitor, the Knysna Loerie with its stunning crimson wings, is a rather shy bird that hops between the branches making quite a noise when it's calling its mate. We hear this bird more often than see it, so were real lucky getting this shot.
We put out wild bird seeds, fruit off-cuts plus we have a couple of bird baths in the garden. Weaver birds are the most common in our tranquil green valley with a stream flowing at the bottom.
But as my title suggests, I would like to share with you another feathered species, the Woolly necked Stork, and this pair are regular visitors at my brother's house, are quite tame but try their very best to look ominous when the dachshund gets too close to their food, with wings spreadeagled.
My brother took a video of the feathered action during our last visit, enjoy :)
I would also like to share a gorgeous piece of bird art I picked up just yesterday at our local SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals); stunning work of Gail Dahl who donates some of her work to their charity shop. I was really fortunate as this just arrived, absolutely beautiful - painting as well as feathers used here.

Oh I love that video! Your little daschund is SO not bothered by the stork's desperate antics, haha. What beautiful birds, and I love Gail Dahl's artwork too.
That Knysna Loerie (I had to copy and paste that!) is magnificent - wonderful colours. I really love birds. I have a new camera, and if I can work out how to use it properly, I might join in this challenge.
Oh you should join in @ natubat, you must see many raptors on your mountain hikes? These are just cellphone shots ;)
The doggie is quite old and happy to find some of the tidbits my sister in law throws out to the Storks who in turn does not like the idea of sharing ;);)
That bird is magnificent, always a treat seeing it fly off!
So you're familiar with Gail Dahl's work? The photo really does not do it justice!
Thank you for your lovely comments @natubat!
Actually I'm not familiar with Gail Dahl's work, but I love the colours and shapes of those birds (no idea what they are though!).
I have seen an eagle from a mountain top, and I did film it, though it wasn't a great film. I hope this camera helps me to get better wildlife shots - once I work out how to use it properly!
Look forward to seeing that!
I can't believe how those storks interacted with the dachshund! It was like a dance back and forth getting close and then scampering away. To cute. So they visit on a regular basis? I would love this. What beautiful birds you have. This is something we are really enjoying now that we live in the tropics, new beautiful birds :) Lovely photos my friend!
Ah thank you my friend! They visit daily, that dance is so funny, always looks like the stork's going to fall into the pool, I love how he spreads his feathers to look ominous :):)

What a fun post! Great shots and the video was very entertaining! It was very cool to see the Stork trying to make itself look big and scary to keep your little dog away! Thanks so much for posting in Feathered Friday! voted and resteemed :-)
Ah thank you @keithboone, it really is so funny watching this, the Stork tries so hard to frighten the old doggie! Thank you so much for starting this tag :)
Great bird photos! The dog does not seem at all bothered by the storks! Too funny. I love your new artwork- it is beautiful
The doggie is quite old but also used to the storks, it's just so funny watching the bird trying it's best to look ominous ;)
Thank you for your lovely feedback @melinda010100
Someone should tell them not to do that jump back move! They look much left ferocious when they do that! I really enjoyed watching that
LOL
