Baby Barred Owl and more for Feathered Friday

Today I busted out the big lens. Don't miss the gif at the end!

It's been a while since I carried my Nikon D750 and Tamron 15-600 lens around. That camera and lens combo is just too heavy for me these days, but today I took my big rig to the park for some bird shots. It sure does get me close to the birds and animals!

The first photo shows a male fledgeling Barred Owl. It flew over my head and perched on a branch looking down at me. After a while, it began to dance from foot to foot crying out for its mother to bring food. The sound it made was almost like a hissing noise. The poor little dear was starving! Check out the animated gif near the end of the post.

The baby Great Blue Herons are just now learning to fly. They stand on the treetops flapping their wings and eventually take their first very short flights. In the next photo, a baby heron makes the 10-foot flight from one treetop to the next.

Next, I've got a common Rock Pigeon for you, captured in-flight.

Here's the poor starving Barred Owl, impatiently waiting for breakfast.

Next we see the Mom ripping a small black bird to pieces to feed her babies. Perhaps it was a crow, I couldn't tell.

And finally, Mom makes a delivery and junior gets his meal!

I've been thinking seriously about selling my DSLR gear because of the weight, but I think after today I will hang onto it a little longer. Thanks for taking a look!

I may... what a cute little🦉 owl 💕

Yeah, the babies are so cute. There are three of them now... two female and one male.

It's so good to see you back, Keith! I've missed you! I love the owl shots. It's nice that they came out during the day so you could get them. Wonderful bird pictures all around!

How fun to see a #featheredfriday post from you, my friend! You are a master of bird photography, and you have some superior equipment to get the job done. That little dancing owl gif is too cute!

Thank you, Melinda! I'm happy to see FeatheredFriday is going strong!

This flagging bullshit sure takes the joy out of it. Why the hell am I being flagged?

Sadly, someone is a bit upset at rules enforcement for PALnet and is blanket downvoting anyone and everyone he can to try and harm it. Don't let it stop you. The entire PAL team is happy to have you here and back in general.

So you can moan and bitch! like me? ask @swelker101 why he does it to me! Look at my blog if you have any questions! Now I know how much you don’t like it, so I will up the flags! Have a nice day! Tell your friends all about steem! This is what they drove me to do, it is very effective!

Excellent, thank you! You're at 1% mana.... I'm going to make 100 extra comments per day for you to flag. Have a wonderful day!

Welcome back! Glad to see your photos again. Pictures accompanied by a good story ... or vice versa.
A perfect blog in my opinion ...

Hey @bluemoon, thanks very much, I'm happy you enjoyed my post :-)

With pleasure, double pleasure...to see you here again and for the beautiful blog!

You are back!!! I have missed you! I sure have missed your bird shots and no!! Don't get rid of your rig. It is amazing and you know how to really work it.

There are babies everywhere right now. I must say that I was surprised how really young they are when they fledge. I couldn't believe it felt like their feather weren't even dry!

Love the Gif!

Upped and I'll steem tomorrow

Hi Denise, thanks for your comments and support!

On a different topic, I can see that some things haven't changed around here. Who are these ass-clowns flagging me for posting bird photos? What's this talk of bid-bot abuse, there are no bot votes on this post! WTF???

Thanks a lot Angie! I think owls are awesome and there are always some owl experts hanging around in the park. When I show up, they will point out which trees the birds are in and tell me which is male or female. I don't think I'd have any shots at all without the help of the "owl ladies" in the park!

Don't sell it! Those photos are awesome! 😉

Thank you! The idea to sell only makes sense if can get something smaller but equal quality. I have some ideas but I'm not sure how well it would work.

If you find small equipment that can provide photos like that camera, please let me know!

It is possible that an Olympus EM-1 Mk ii with a Panasonic/Leica 100-400mm might do it. I've been investigating this concept for some time now.

Wow... some wonderful snaps and no wonder why those shots are special and why you cannot carry on with capturing some nice shots by looking at the gadget./instrument you are using for it.

You must have patience in abundance to get those click in a precise manner in the way you might had posted here, The baby owl looking into your eyes and the two flying birds in the air all seems to be worth for the time you had spent for.

Overall this looks a great post...

Thanks very much, @angelro, I happy you liked the photos! I enjoy bird photography and find it is well worth the time required.

Everyone have their own interest, wild life and bird photography is one of the difficult and it makes interesting to meet such people even though it is in this virtual world. Nice to meet you Sir, Looking forward to more such posts.

Cheers

So here's the plan...you rest up a bit, maybe some light workouts with weights for the arms/shoulders/back, then back out with that set-up. The photos are definitely worth it. And the editing? I challenge anyone to look at the gif without smiling! BTW, my favorite image was the commonest bird, the pigeon in flight.

Thanks very much @kunschj! I messed up my shoulder last year and eventually figured out it was the big lens that did it! I can only use it for an hour max. If I sold that gear it would be to replace it with something lighter.

You’re very welcome :-)
