Feathered Friday. Blue crane /

in #featheredfriday6 years ago
I found in the archive photos of a very interesting and beautiful bird. This is Blue crane, photographed in September 2008 at the Moscow Zoo.
Among cranes, this species is one of the smallest in size and with a small beak. To me, these birds seem a little toy because of the plumage on the head, making the head larger.
The blue crane (Grus paradisea), also known as the Stanley crane and the paradise crane. It has a very beautiful pearl-gray color with smooth transitions from lighter to darker. A black plumage tail is not a tail, but such long wing feathers on the wings. For them, he was called four-winged.

We have these rare birds can be seen only in the zoo, as they live exclusively in southern Africa: in Namibia and in South Africa.

A couple of Blue cranes now live in the Moscow Zoo. In 2008 I saw only one. I hope it was he (she) who found a pair. And it seems that he was bored there. Despite a full-fledged diet, this graceful bird was engaged in begging near the grid. Since the cranes are rather omnivorous, apparently the bird was glad to any treat.

A couple that lives in the Moscow Zoo in recent years, since 2014, they have been trying to breed chicks. But for the first time, unfortunately, the chicks did not survive. In 2016, zoo workers helped the chicks. And finally, from 2018, a pair of Blue cranes from the Moscow Zoo raises their chick.

Our national bird of South Africa @eto-ka we see them occasionally along the roadside foraging food, very graceful on land and in the sky flying.

Thanks!
Yes, I read that this is a symbol of South Africa.
I envy that you can observe these wonderful birds in nature!

It is so exciting to hear that they have successfully raised a check! They are such beautiful birds, they may be my favorite of the crane species.

Thank!
Yes, I am also glad that they are good in our zoo. They are wonderful!

The International Crane Foundation is in Wisconsin and they have all of the different cranes from around the world there and have a very successful breeding program. It is a really great place to visit.
