Happy Fathers Day!

To all the dads and grandads out in the world.

Fathers Day is an annual day of appreciation to fathers and grandfathers and a celebration of the love that we have have for the male role models of our life’s. Gifts and cards are often given to show the appreciation for the male role in a persons life.
But why do we celebrate it?

The History of Fathers Day

Father's Day is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year on June 19, and it all began when a young woman wanted to honor her dad.

In May of 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd sat in church listening to a Mother's Day sermon. She decided she why not have a day for her dad too. One year later She petitioned to have the church honour fathers as well as mothers and this spread.

Still being recognised within the catholic community, President Lyndon Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers in 1966, but it wasn't until 1972 that President Richard Nixon signed the public law that made it a permanent holiday.

Since then, Father’s Day has become a time to recognize the many different father figures in our lives.

Fathers Day Now

These days, Father’s Day has become more of a commercial franchise than a religious celebration. With shops stocking up on cheesy slogan merchandise and the latest razor blades, you can bet that being father now comes with its very own mug say something on the lines of Greatest Dad.

Unlike Mother’s Day, schools are also forgetting the importance of Father’s Day and I have even read that some schools refuse to speak of the day as this may cause offence to children that don’t have an active father figure in there life’s. Mother’s Day though is fine and will have there students grow a daffodil and crate a card for that specific day.

Have we created a society where the father figure is less important to a child than the mother or has this always been the case?

Well, for me (today at least) none of this matters. It is how much love I give my children and watching them grow that is the ultimate reward.

I’m proud 2 B a Father

Happy Father's Day to you @father2b
I don't usually participate in commercial holidays anymore (not even Christmas) because if we celebrate love EVERY DAY, then we don't need Hallmark or Amazon or Walmart getting rich from it.

valentines day i have never participated in for a lot of years myself.

Happy Father’s Day, I was a bit disorganized by ending up in Brazil for it - I don’t think I could get further away from my boys.
