Japan fashion influence: bows and tea. 🍰 (eng-esp)

Why would someone dress like a doll these days?
...
Cause it's cute. - Por que es lindo.
This style is mainly carried by girls between 17 and 35 years old. Although the main idea is that it can be used after approximately 15 years, there is no age for this fashion. At present you can see people over 40 and 50 carrying it, especially more conservative styles such as gothic, classic, casual, aristocratic and elegant.

Types of Lolita:
(Tipos de lolita)
Gothic lolita 💀:
The Gothic Lolita is the first recognizable and oldest style. Based on dark baroque and Gothic style, in the clothes the most common is the combination of white and black, but they also include in the range of colors navy blue or dark blue, and even red. The length of the skirt or dress is at the knee and following the Victorian style.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑯𝒆𝒏𝒓𝒊𝒆
Gothic Lolita style originated in mid-1998, and became more accessible in several boutiques and department stores in 2001. The popularity of the Gothic Lolita as a distinctive style reached its peak in 2004 and 2005 in Tokyo, and to the present it remains as one of the "alternative" fashions among Japanese youth. Although the name of 'Gothic' Lolita alludes to the Gothic fashion as a whole, it is not a subgenre of Western Gothic.
Sweet Lolita 🍭:
The Sweet Lolita or Ama-loli is a sub-style characterized by representing the softer, childish and tender side of the lolitas. It is one of the most popular and currently used styles, laced with the "kawaii" culture.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑺𝒚𝒉𝒏
Generally, in their wardrobe predominates light colors or pastels such as white, pink and light blue, cream, light yellow or mint green. As a companion, teddy bears, candies, tea party reference and other toys are commonly used as decorations. The swollen lolitas should always look beautiful and very sweet.
Classic Lolita 🍵:
The Classic Lolita is a more mature style: less ornaments and not so fluffy dresses. Classic dresses usually use less bright colors and floral designs with warmer colors.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑩𝒐𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒆
Empire cut dresses are also used to achieve a more serious look. The shape of the skirt tends to be of A Cut. The hair usually has very combed and sober hairdos, maybe wearing hats, mini-hats, bonnets or small ties. Usually, book themed ornaments, laces, tea and/or coffee references are used in this style. -This is the most british-like style. -
Country Lolita 🍃:
This thematic style evokes peaceful life in the countryside.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑷𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒕 𝑷𝒊𝒂𝒇
They stand out with campiran prints (fruits are a good choice), straw hats or small baskets. A well-known brand is Mary Magdalene.
Princess Lolita 👑:
The Hime Lolita is a style much inspired by the Rococo. Normally miniature tiaras or crowns and tall hair are used with elaborate pickups.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝒁𝒐𝒎𝒃𝒊𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑
Pearls, roses and bows fit perfectly in this style. The main idea is looking like a princess, so the dresses tend to be highly decorated with lots of good-quality lace and sheer ragged fabrics, givin some sort of Marie Anthoniette style.
Wa-lolita 👘:
It is inspired by traditional Japanese clothing, including the kimono and the less formal yukata, both modified to fit the Lolita style.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑲𝒖𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒐𝒐𝒏
One regular option is a garment that gives the impression of a kimono (long big sleeves and the traditional v neck created in kimonos), along with a flying skirt, and often an Obi (traditional belt) and lace is added.
Qi Lolita 👹:
It is inspired by traditional Chinese dresses: high collars, fake closures on the side decorated with ribbons usually identify these dresses. They are usually modified to have the typical bell-shaped skirt and typical Chinese accessories.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑮𝒍𝒂𝒛𝒊𝒂
The name is based on Qi-Pao, the most popular known chinese dress.
Kuro Lolita and Shiro Lolita 👻:
This style is all about monochrome .The Kuro Lolita are those who wear a set whose only color is black, while Shiro Lolita dress only in white, antique white, or cream. Kuro and Shiro the Lolitas are often in pairs to create greater color contrast.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒊 𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒓𝒖
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒆
The only requirement in each of these styles is to go completely white or black, never mixing them together or adding any colour.
Sailor Lolita 🌊:
It is a more lolita version of the old marine uniforms.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑰𝒔𝒂𝒖𝒓𝒂
The skirts have lines on the edges, the blouses sometimes have a sailor's collar and a small naval-style hat can also be worn. Sailor necklaces, red, blue and white are key factors to recognize this style.
Pirate Lolita ❂:
Thematic style very linked to Sailor. We can call it it's counter version.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑺𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒉
This style incorporates certain historical elements of 'pirate' cut: Three-pointed hats, bags shaped like treasure chests and accessories that remember the figure of a Pirate (swords, nets, pistols, etc.)
Lolita Over The Top (OTT) 🎀:
This style is born from Sweet Lolita, but more specifically born from Deco-Loli. It is not exactly the same, because this style is much more focused on the headdress "over the Top".
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑵𝒐𝒌𝒆
In this style moderation is prohibited and is absolutely essential the use of incredible colored wigs, thousands of bows, accessories, etc., while taking care of the rest of the outfit. Quite striking, but not as much as in the Lolita deco.
Punk Lolita 🎸:
Punk Lolita is a very difficult style to use, as the line separating it from the whole punk look is very thin.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑺𝒂𝒎𝒎𝒚
Some traditional elements taken from punk are hook pins, studs, check prints, etc. Punk lolitas tend to keep the length of the skirts or continue to wear pompous blouses with all the other Punk accessories.
Deco-Loli 🌈:
Born from the decora current, this style it’s defined by wearing everything over the limits in accessories and outfit. So, it is the most loud and striking of all: lots of necklaces, handcuffs, any supremely big headdress (or several) and loud colorful wigs.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒂
Of course, it must be accompanied with the proper skirt, and follow the lines of the lolita style, but way more decorated (the reason of the name.)
Kodona 🎠:
The Kodona is a more childish style and is inspired by the Victorian children's clothes, such as vests, white shirts finished in long beaks, knee pants, elegant shoes, small hats, etc.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑺𝒊𝒎𝒐𝒏
Prince (Ōji / Dandy) 🏰:
This style works as the masculine version of the hime.
𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮: 𝑲𝒊𝒓𝒂 𝑶𝒖𝒋𝒊
As its name says, it’s inspired by a more old-fashioned look, with more "mature" and "formal" manners and features from the Victorian or Rococo era.

Lolita Negra y Lolita Blanca (Kuro y shiro rori) 👻:

Now, before you go... - Ahora, antes de que te vayas...
Some things to consider - Algunas cosas a considerar
There are a lot of items that can be wore in this fashion, but the main ones are (at least in the girl-like styles) a petticoat to lift the skirt, a skirt or JSK (Jumpskirt) to be lifted, the propper socks (over the knees, pantysocks or anklesocks), a blouse, a head dress, a small bag and cute-looking shoes.
There is a common lolita expression, EGLA, used to define the Elegant Gothic Aristocrat or the most sober version of lolita, with longer, less puffy skirts and way more sober pieces, commonly wore by older females.
Dandi and Ouji are technically not the same. While the Ouji style it's more wore by females who wants a boyish style, Dandi its a more masculine style that can be perfectly wore by males (less decorated).
Steampunk may not be considered as part of the lolita archetype, even though it is from the same epoch.
Once again, This a fashion style. Calling it a Costume it's highly ofensive for lolitas.

I know, rigth?
i love that you are doing this in such detail and can actually get the photos to stay in the right column!!!
i used to be into dressing up for fun in various styles (victorian, goth, 50s, pirate, rocky horror, punk, bowie, hippie, viking, etc) years ago, but it was more of several short term phases and an doomed hobby because to buy the clothing is so expensive and i suck at sewing.
do the people who follow this fashion have parties where they all dress up or show off fashion ideas? i get the idea that girls in japan just dress this way on an everyday basis, like the punks did in britain, but im not sure.
fun post!
Toricooo! <3 I love that you used to dress like that, seriously!
Well, I had to edit the post like... 5 times to make it rigth, steemit can be kinda tricky with the page settings... and yeah! Lolita groups are pretty much everywhere, and they make meetings ands tea-parties <3 I'm pretty sure that you would love to go!

I didn't even know that something like Lolita really existed! And it has so many sub-genres!! WOW! I have to go to Japan to see it! :)
Thank you for the information!
Well, lolita has groupes pretty much everywhere! you would be amazed ;)
But, the thing with lolitas is that they are pretty close with their meetings and such. And yes! lolita has a lot of subgenres, is one of the most diverse groups in J-fashion :)
Actually there was a reportage about them in the news yesterday :) It made me think about your post :)
I like your post layout. I will feature you post in payitforward contest.
Thank you! nice catto btw <3 I gotta look forward to read that!
Me encantan.

Thanks a lot for your post. Very interesting fashion style. I love it.
PS: I've found you because @mmunited featured you on his entry for The Pay It Forward Contest
I'll be working on this series about Jfashion. It is so diverse, that you would be totally amazed!
I like the classic and country style Lolita. I think those styles are somehow more modern that can be worn and be blended in today's trend. Also the sailor Lolita I guess. I like all the others for a costume show or party. Now you gave me an idea just in case we have costume party again. :)
I came across your article through @mmunited who featured it on his post as an entry to the Pay It Forward Curation Contest. The contest is open to everyone so you are welcome to join.
Thanks! I have to read that entry ASAP.
And yeash! there is also a casual lolita, not featured here. It is a style that you can use everyday, and pretty much every subgenre has a casual version, with more "regular" clothing for the daily basics :)
Lolitas tend to wear the full outfit in special events ;) occidental lolitas use them in conventions, tea parties and gatherings.
Thank you for reading!
Can you also post the casual lolita? I thought I can have an idea about it. 😊
By the way, the Lolita I know is a name of a girl. 😊
This post was shared in the Curation Collective Discord community for curators, and upvoted and resteemed by the @c-squared community account after manual review.
Thank you!!! <3
Complete and comprehensive @unicornia 😉 luv this information, though I am not a fadhionistas, but reading this information has broaden my perspectives about lolitas and japan culture of fashions. I though costplay is the only popular one in the world because of the japanese anime and manga character lovers😊 and perhaps "naomi osaka" style will be the next inspiring fashions for the lolitas.
It may be. Jfashion is really diverse, and it's undertandable that cosplay is the most popular (since it's related to beloved characters). Glas that you enjoyed my post!
