Batik Making Process

Until now the process of making batik can be done with 3 ways, namely batik tulis, cap, and print. Currently batik print is more often called batik cloth by artists and batik craftsmen. In the manufacture of batik print is considered mass product and the process is very minimal. In the process of making batik and stamp is still considered original because the use of candles or night as a media color barrier, until almost the entire process manually by human hands.

In general, the process of making batik through 3 stages are:

Giving night (wax) on cloth,
Coloring,
Release of wax from cloth.

White fabrics to be batik can be given the basic color according to our taste or remain white before the night before. The process of giving tonight can use hand canting included in the process of batik or by process stamp. On the cloth that is given night to block the coloring process in batik because the night can not enter pervasive on the cloth (wax resist). After being given the night, batik dyed with color. This coloring process can be done several times as needed and how many colors are desired.

After the process of coloring and giving the night is done then the night is thrown with the heating process. Batik that has been processed above boiled until the night becomes melted and detached from the cloth and dissolves in water. Boiling process is done twice, the last with soda ash solution to turn off the color attached to the batik, and avoid throwing. After boiling finished, batik soaked in cold water and dried.

The tools needed in the process of making batik are:

Canting or stamp, Canting is a tool for batik commonly used. Canting is usually made of copper material that ends up like a bird's beak whereas. While the stamp is a tool like a large patterned stamp made of copper.
Gawangan, Gawangan is the place to put the cloth to be done batik process. Gawangan generally made of wood or bamboo

Frying pan, small frying pan, used to melt the night or candle. This frying pan can be made of copper or clay (especially for batik process)

Anglo / small stove, Anglo / small stove used to heat the pan (special for batik process)

Night / candle, Night / candle used in batik is made from a mixture of various types of materials such as gondorukem, coconut oil fat, and paraffin.

Dyes, dyes commonly used in the form of chemical / artificial dyes and natural dyes are obtained from the bark of soga, indigo leaves, and others.
