SEWING MACHINES; BASIC EQUIPMENT OF A FASHION DESIGNER
In fashion world our work cannot be complete without the use of sewing machine. In other words, sewing machines is what we use to bring about what will call FINISHING to our work.
Not only fashion designers use sewing machines, these machines are also used by shoe makers and bag makers. But they are mostly used by fashion designers for tailoring.
I will be introducing to us the various types of sewing machines we have and the functions or rather say the works they do for us.
Straight sewing machine
This machine is basically used for sewing straight line and not for any other. And this machine is also used by shoe making and bags. It can be refer to as the most simplest and easy type of all the machines. You can either use it with electricity or manually, but most people prefer to use it manually for easy accessibility. It is produce by different companies with different label. Let me try and analyze the names of the product I call recall. We have;
• Singers
• Butterfly
• Beautiful
• Generals
• Brother
Industrial sewing machine
Industrial sewing machine is a very complex machine which cannot be used by just anybody because of the complexibility.
And this single machine has different functions;
They can be used for straight line just like ordinary sewing machine.
They also sew different types of lines like;
Zigzag
Dotted
Pointed
Industrial sewing machine are also used for making button holes on shirt and any other material
They are also used for hard stitches.
This machine is mostly used for sewing readymade materials and it makes work very easy and neat.
Designing (Embroider) machine
This machine is particularly made for embroidering (An embroidered decoration); embroider on the other hand means to stitch a decorative design on fabric with needle and thread of various colours. Which most men always prefer this on their fabric.
Weaving machines
Weaving machine is classified into two types and serve different purpose.
- There is what we call inner weaving; this is mainly used to weave the inner part of our dress to make our work neatly. In this case this weaving machine is basically used for inner weaving of our dress.
- We also have what we call industrial weaving machine that is used for the weaving of round shape or even straight lines of our fabric.
Covered button machine
We normally used this machine for making of buttons called covered buttons.
Press buttons machine
This particular machine is used to make press buttons on our clothes.
We so called fashion designers there are no way we can do without using this machines alighted above. I believe have been able to enlighten us on the various use and purpose of this machine.
