Elaboration of homemade germinators.

in #farms6 years ago (edited)

The germinators are instruments that favor the germination system, in which the seeds are kept under adequate humidity conditions, in order to convert them into apt plants for human consumption.

Making a germinator can be a very interesting experience, both for children and adults. It is a very simple process that we can all implement in our homes, it does not require much time and it is economical, but the best thing of all is that they are very nutritious and ecological.

The germinators can be elaborated in glass jars, ecological linen bags, trays, plastic containers, etc. In the case of preparing them for human consumption should take into account the hygiene of seeds, water and the environment (water, oxygen and temperature) where are going to develop.

Factors that influence the germination process.

  1. Water: It is necessary that the seed absorb water to start the different organic processes inside. If there is no water, the seed will not germinate, regardless of whether the rest of the factors are present. Water has the function of beginning the germination beginning, since it generates essential chemical compounds to initiate the transformation of the embryo and generate energy to supply the growth.

  2. Temperature: After the seed absorbs the water, enzymatic activation is generated. These are responsible for the chemical reactions that occur within the seed and in the same way activate the breathing process. For these enzymes to act correctly, an adequate temperature is needed. That is why the seeds in nature germinate in spring, since the temperature conditions are optimal.

  3. Oxygen: It is very important that where the seeds are placed (bed, napkin, cotton, etc.), be soft so that there is a good access of oxygen to the seed. Remember that oxygen is responsible for the development of respiration and begin to function the biological mechanism of the seed, which produces a division and elongation of cells that restore the meristematic zones of the embryo, the apical and radicular zone, which germinate will give way to the stem and root respectively.

As it is a very simple and beneficial process, I decided to make two germinators with grains (Caraotas and lentils) ... Next, I will show you how to make them.

We need the following:

1.jpg

Step 1: We introduce the napkin in each container previously washed..

2.jpg

Step 2: We add the grains in each container.

Step 3: Moisten the napkins with little water.

Step 4: Place the containers in a cool place.

Recommendations:

  • Always keep the napkins moist. Remember what the excess water rots the grains.

  • Every two days we must rotate the germinators so that all the grains receive the same amount of light.

  • Germinators should always be kept clean, since germination, the environment and organic waste are conducive to bacterial proliferation.

As you can see, it is a very easy and economical process.

So encourage yourself to make your own homemade germinators.
