How to obtain a natural foliar fertilizer for your garden?

in #farms6 years ago (edited)

A big greeting to my friends Steemians, today I will teach you how to make a natural fertilizer, in an easy and simple way; This is an ideal fertilizer for plants grown in pots, or in our small gardens. In addition, it is a very economic product, since its preparation is based on the remains of vegetables and vegetables. Many housewives need fertilizers for their plants and go to agricultural stores to buy fertilizers in the form of pills or liquids, but these are of chemical origin, have components toxic to humans, and especially for children, so that its use is a risk to the family.

With this product that we are going to elaborate, the housewives can fumigate the plants of their pots, the gardens or those small ornamental plants that are kept inside the house; the fertilizer is applied with a simple and small sprinkler; This is also a fertilizer that has the main nutrients for the growth and development of plants, such as the N-P-K elements and some microelements.

How much does this fertilizer cost?

Nothing, because the materials used are waste.

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Advantage:

  • This is a better idea, than throwing away the remains of food.
  • Children learn with their parents about the use of disposable materials and take care of the environment, and these ideas take them to their school for the gardens.

  • This is a product that contains the essential nutrients for the growth and development of plants.
  • It costs nothing, just the willingness to do it.
  • It does not pollute the environment.
  • It's easy to do it.
Disadvantages:
  • The only counter of this product, is that during the fermentation process an unpleasant odor is expelled, but it lasts only about 3 days.

Elaboration of natural fertilizer for plants

Materials:

  • A 2-L plastic bottle, with lid
  • Earth
  • Funnel
  • Remains of vegetables and fruits
  • Dry leaves
  • sprouted beans, includes the soaking water
  • 5 tablespoons of Sugar, preferably unrefined sugar (Brunette)

Process:

  • Place 1/4 liter of soil in the bottle, with the use of the funnel.
  • Add the remains of vegetables, fruits, dried leaves and the sprouted beans; trying to crush these materials well and cover half the bottle.
  • Then add the water with the incorporated sugar until filling the bottle at the level of 1.5 liters.
  • The lid is tightly fitted.
  • The bottle is shaken to mix the materials well.
  • The lid is loosened a little, so that when the fermentation process starts, the gases slowly escape.
  • Now we place the bottle in a warm and dark place.
  • After these previous steps, we wait 3 days and proceed to shake the mixture and we will continue doing it for fifteen days; At the beginning the mixture will expel a bad smell, which will gradually disappear, and we can observe that the mixture will increase the volume due to the effect of fermentation.
  • The final step will be to fill the bottle until the 2-L is complete and shake.

How do we know if the mix is ready?

When we observe that the mixture is well shredded and also, with a strong brown color and no bad smell, this indicates that we could use our fertilizer.

Dosage for the use of foliar fertilizer

For the proper use of this fertilizer, it is advisable to double the amount by adding water, that is, if we are going to use 500 milliliters of fertilizer, add 500 milliliters of water, which would give us the amount of 1 liter.

Uses of solid fertilizer mixture

Once the liquid has been extracted from the bottle, we can use this mixture linking with soil to prepare new pots, this is a fertilizer called compost. But if we want to continue using the fertilizer for foliar applications, we add a liter of water to this mixture and use it directly.

Recommendations:

If we want this fertilizer to have besides the nutrients, effects like insecticide or insect repellent, I recommend adding the dried leaves of the Neem plant to the materials (Azadirachta indica).
