Borage is used as a vegetable, in infusions and oil.

To be able to consume the borage at home you can collect the flowers, the stems and the tender leaves.

The part that is most used in cooking are the leaves, which can be eaten raw in salads, either fresh or cooked as part of stews and meat garnishes.

Cultivation of the Borage:

The broom can be easily cultivated, because it adapts to all types of climates and even semi-shade, taking into account it does not tolerate extremely cold climates. It prefers sunny areas although they are also cultivated in the shade.

As for the soil is not demanding, it adapts to all types of soils, although it is better sandy and humid; it requires a fertile, well-drained soil that is able to retain a little moisture. Regarding this, you should be clear about this situation with respect to soil moisture, that is, you should take the precautions regarding irrigation to guarantee a moist soil.

Its sowing is from the seed, it is usually sown in spring to flower in summer or in autumn to flower in spring.

At the time of planting the seeds you must leave a distance of 30 centimeters between them, and must be covered with the earth, since it requires darkness to complete the germination process. The seeds planted will mature in about 6 weeks and the flowers will appear during the first weeks.

If you encourage your crop you should know that it can be combined in your home garden with other vegetables; particularly with strawberries, tomatoes and pumpkins, since their flowers attract the bees necessary for pollination.
