Farms: The Radisd

in #farms6 years ago

The radish is a vegetable that has European cultivars and oriental varieties. European cultivars can be small or large, with roots that can be round or long. The external color of the roots can be red, pink, purple, white, green, black and yellow or cream.

The climate for radish grows best between 8 ° C and 20 ° C, and its brightness is under direct sunlight or in partial shade, as long as the luminosity is high.

The ground for planting should be on tender soil and without stones or the roots may be twisted and branched, especially for cultivars that have long roots. The soil must be rich in organic matter, fertile, well drained and with a pH higher than 5.5. The radish does not need soil rich in nitrogen. As for irrigation, it needs good water availability, but the soil should not be soaked. Never let the floor dry completely.

To plant the seeds should be sown directly in the final place in the garden.

Radish can be grown among the lines of other vegetables, especially small-sized radish cultivars such as lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, squash, beans, peas, spinach, chicory and corn.

Small cultivars can be grown easily in pots and planters. Larger cultivars can be grown in pots that have a size appropriate to the size of the cultivar.

The beginning of the harvest should start depending on the crop planted, but generally occurs in 25 to 32 days for small cultivars, when they are grown under ideal conditions. These radishes must be harvested without much delay, as the roots become woody and bitter. Larger crops are usually harvested 60 to 80 days after sowing. Some radish cultivars are annual plants, while others are biannual plants.
