THE TYPES OF SOWING

The 6 most common types of planting

Did you know that you can choose between different ways to plant in your organic garden? Mainly, one or another planting technique is chosen based on the vegetables that we are going to cultivate, but other factors are also taken into account, such as the space requirements that the plant will require once it is adult, the dimensions of the seed and the land in which we are going to plant, etc.

These are the forms of sowing that are normally most used among gardeners:

.- Sowing in seedbeds or seedbeds.

It is used when we want to protect the seeds from adverse weather conditions (or poor for germination and growth), when we want to increase the chances of germination, when the seedlings are more delicate, etc.

We can prepare the seedlings by reusing small containers or buying them ready-made and, depending on external conditions, they can be outdoors or covered to avoid wind, frost or heavy rains.

With this way of sowing we have greater control over the process of germination and growth of the seedling, yes, then we will have to transplant them and during this step we must be very careful not to cause damage to the roots and produce stress in the small plant.

2.- Sowing in holes.

Also called sowing to chorrillo, is a technique that is often used with large seeds. We can put one seed per hole or put several seeds per hole.

In order to carry out this planting technique we must make holes in line with the help of a planter in the area in which we are going to sow. Once the holes are made, we place the seeds and cover them carefully.

3.- Sowing by volley

This way of sowing consists of taking a handful of seeds that previously we will have mixed with a little sand and dispersing them throughout the land in which we want to cultivate. Then cover the seeds with a thin layer of sand to prevent them from moving.

4.- Sowing in quincunx

It is a type of planting that is usually used when it is cultivated in terraces to better organize the plants, that they have enough space and thus be able to make better use of the available space.

Zigzag holes are made with the planter, as in the seeding in holes or chorrillo.

5.- Precision sowing

In this technique is carried out through machinery focused on this purpose that has the benefit of saving a lot of work and time to the gardener, especially if it is going to be planted in large areas. The machine is calibrated beforehand to establish parameters such as the depth and distance to which we want to plant and then place the seed.

6.- Planting in rows

It is a seeding technique that consists of making a groove in line in variable depth according to the size of the seed we are using and then the seeds are placed. We will place them more or less together according to the dimensions that the plant will acquire when it reaches adulthood to be able to leave enough space. Then we cover the seeds without excessively pressing the soil.
