There are several irrigation systems in the market, between types of equipment and specialized companies. However, the most commonly used is spray and drip.


How sprinkler irrigation works



It uses equipment such as sprinkler nozzles, hoses, pumps and computerized control. A project is needed for the sizing and quantity of material. According to the system used, you can irritate the top of the plants or below them, with advantages and disadvantages. At home garden level is an interesting way, enables the cultivation of vegetables of optimal quality with more rational use of water.The disadvantage of these irrigation systems is that the plant begins to depend exclusively on the supply, not to exploit the soil with its roots in search of water and nutrients.
 

Fertigation systems


To promote more nutrients for a good quality production, the fertigation technique has been used successfully in commercial productions.

The nutrients dissolved in the water are supplied to the plants, as for example in the production of vegetables and ornamentals in greenhouses.



It is a considerable cost of inputs and water, although a considerable initial expense with equipment and needs a project of sizing of the water tank, of the hoses, pumps, frequency, and quantity of nutritional elements.

It is advisable to consult and advise a specialized professional in the sector. For the domestic garden, the high cost of technology and equipment makes the project unviable.


Deep Drip Irrigation


Deep or underground drip irrigation brings innumerable advantages, mainly for crops such as coffee plantations and could be used by amateur gardeners in their urban gardens.


It consists in burying hoses at a depth that will be able to supply water directly in the roots of the plants, saving liquids and fertilizers.

It also requires equipment and projects in the area. It does not favor the appearance of fungal diseases and the development of impulses with this rationalization of the use of water.

However, the works of the chapels can cut the hoses. Knowledge of the culture is necessary to determine the depth that the hoses should be.
The solution for the home garden: with a garden shovel and not too drill the ground we can control the cleanliness of our sites without damaging the buried hoses.

The hoses can be perforated at intervals, which can be marked on the ground with pieces of bamboo, at the time of planting to make the hole next to it, so there will be water in the roots.


Alternative Home Irrigation Method


In the home garden, we can use a simple method to grow vegetables and fruits, with the use of disposable PET bottles. Rub a clean bottle with a heated nail into very small holes.

When going to prepare the flowerbed for cultivation, buried in the flower bed next to a molt to be irrigated or several at regular intervals between plants.

Set aside a part of the bottleneck. When you need to water, apply the garden hose on the neck and fill the bottle.

It is convenient to keep the lid avoiding the entry of leaves, dirt, and insects.
