The Corn (Zea May)
Corn is a dry fruit, classified as cereal, has many names depending on the country of origin, it is also known as, Abatí, Borona, Caucha, Choclo, Malajo, Abaté, among others, its scientific name is scientific Zea May, it is a family of the Gramineae and of the genus Zea.
In Venezuela, which is my country of origin, this plant is called corn, jojoto or mazorca, when the fruit is tender, without fully maturing, it is used to make traditional dishes of Venezuelan gastronomy, cachapa, arepas, bollitos, among others.
This plant is a simple and upright stem shrub that usually reaches 3 to 4 meters in height, with elongated leaves and monoecious inflorescences, since they have flowers of both male and female sexes in the same plant; The female flowers of the corn are formed by a spike or ear, which have several spikes embedded in a thick axis of spongy consistency and the male flowers have a tuft form located at the end of the plant.
Corn has many properties because it is rich in proteins that are good for repairing cells and muscles, it is low in fat, which is why it is beneficial for the organism, it has an ideal fiber to regulate cholesterol and prevent constipation, it has a lot of potassium for creation of bones and regular cardiac function, in addition it is rich in vitamin A, among others.
Considering all the benefits offered by corn, families in their homes can consider the cultivation of this plant at home, it should only have an area prepared for this purpose, either in your yard or garden, where you should prepare the land and take of the dry corn the seed that we will proceed to cultivate, it is important to emphasize that once the seed is planted so that it thrives, it must reach temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees, and for its development and growth it must be exposed to sunlight and must irrigate daily, it is important to note that each plant gives an average of 2 to 5 fruits or ears of corn.
Once the harvest is done, to collect the corn we must take into account that the corncob beard is brown, the corn must have spongy texture, without being soft at all, a way to check if it is not at all is to break a grain with the nail if a milky liquid comes out still needs to mature a little.
Since you have notions about how to grow your own corn, I tell you that with it you can cook wonderful dishes or use it as a complement to it, it is also used to make drinks in some countries, this fruit is very appreciated, since many people today they include it in their diet worldwide.
