Cultivating the oregano,in my garden

Hello, dear Steemians, in especiala my friends of @farms. Today I want to comment on one of the most beautiful and rewarding experiences of life, as well as the pride of a father to see the birth and growth of a child, likewise we feel that pride the people who have the joy of being able to sow and cultivate a plant: water it daily, watch it grow, enjoy its bonanza, and even more be able to share its properties and benefits with family and friends.

Approximately three years ago my husband gave me a small plot, there were some cocoa and avocado plants, but it was more the weeds that lived in that small space than any other type of plant.

I remember that in the first days we were not interested in the condition of that space, we were not people with knowledge in any type of crop. Some time later my husband felt interested in planting. With the help and knowledge of some farmers in the area was planting in our small plot plants of milky, bananas, cassava, lemon, jogo, mango and spices, such as oregano. Its fruits and species have been of benefit and some have been used in various dishes that we have made in the kitchen.

At the time of making a dish I use the fruits of my plot. I love the taste that oregano gives to food, therefore, after this long introduction, I will tell you about the taste that this plant gives to foods and their medicinal uses.

The oregano is used for seasoning, its flavor and smell is excellent at meals, and I told my husband the benefits of planting oregano in the plot and from there our great journey began to grow oregano. Although it seems easy to say it, the sowing process was not so easy, since sometimes there are adverse conditions, such as the type of soil and environmental factors, a lot of rain or a lot of heat, play against the plant. However, it is worth trying until the conditions are favorable and our plant can grow.

Here is our journey:

Planting process:

-. First we had to look for the seeds of the oregano, but in our community it was not easy to find them, so a farmer recommended that we look for an oregano plant, origanum vulgare, as an adult and we take a branch of the plant, and this is what we do.

-. Second, we prepare the land with all kinds of natural organic compounds such as dried tree waste, manure and some dried leaves.

-. Third, in a black bag, special for nurseries, we placed the fertilized soil and without doing much pressure we introduced the branch. We made a small nursery and watered it.

Sowing time, 1st. tried

-. In the first month of care we noticed that the nursery had not worked, we had left it for a long time in a place where it was not so sunny and the plant died.

Sowing time, 2nd. tried

-. We tried again. This time we placed the plants in a cool place where I gave a little more sun and instead of making a nursery, this time we made four nurseries. The plants were watered twice a day, first thing in the morning and at the end of the afternoon. In the first weeks some plants were not yet anchored to the ground, however there was one of them that turned out to be the only one that had stuck.

-. Around two months and being the only plant that had been growing, we decided to transplant it in a part of the plot.

Transplant process

  • With great care and without damaging it, we took it out of the nursery bag. We dig a shallow hole in the ground and sow it. They were months of great care. The rainy season arrived and they were watered naturally. The plant was growing until we realized that we could use it in dishes or for medicinal purposes.

Collection process

-. To collect your leaf you just have to slowly take off the branch leaf and place these leaves in the sun to dry. In the process, its color will change from a light green leaf to a darker leaf, and will decrease in volume. Its flavor is unique and exquisite for all kinds of meats and meals.
