The Faridpur Agriculture Extension Department said that the production of onion seeds will exceed thousands of metric tonnes.
Onion seeds farmers have already brought the crop in the house. They are in the last stages of the collection.
It is learned that in the current season, onion seeds have been planted on 2,500 hectares of land in the Faridpur region. Many people in the district are now interested in the cultivation of onion seeds because the profits are more than the cost.
Krishidish Kinkar Chandra Das, Additional Director, Faridpur Agricultural Extension Director, said, "In the five seasons of the Faridpur region, onion seeds will produce more than 4, 000 tonnes of onion, whose market is approximately Tk 28 crores. Out of this, 1 thousand 127 metric tons of onion seeds will be produced only in Faridpur district.
He said that 60 percent of the total amount of onion collected from the government BADC is supplied from Faridpur district.
In Faridpur Sadar upazila, there are several fields in the field of Ambikapur and Ishan Gopalpur Union, Kisan Kisanis are busy busy collecting the onion seeds. Onion field farmer at Ambikapur Rabiul Sikder, Bari Chowdhury, Julekha Begum and others said that the onion that they work on this season, the onion needs to meet the needs of onions throughout the year.
Onion seeds farmers of Gobindapur ground said that due to favorable weather, onion seed bumper yield has been achieved. Bigha will produce more than three times the seed. Their expectation will be to sell onion beet seeds 80 to 90 thousand rupees per season (in November). But the cost is 35 thousand to 40 thousand taka per bigha. As a result, peasants are hoping for more than 2.5 lakh taka more profit.
Successful onion seeds cultivator in the list of BADC of village Omkikapur of Faridpur Sadar upazila said. Baktar Hossain Khan said, "This year we planted onion seeds on 30 bighas of land. Bumper yield has also been done. Hopefully more than 90 varieties of seeds will be produced.
Krishid Chandra Chakrabarty, deputy director of Faridpur Agricultural Extension Directorate, said, "This crop is called as black gold due to the fact that by producing this seed, farmers make more profit in Rabi season. Onion seeds of the agricultural department district give regular advice to the farmers. '
