Can Steemit allow any html/embedding code?

I would like to use a different video player than Youtube, I'm talking about a fully decentralised video protocol called Livepeer and I'd love that video player to visible here.

I also saw Vimeo gets and external link :(
is there a reason why Steemit doesn't allow all media?
can its protocol be extended?
