California girl, 15, ran pot shop out of her bedroom and mom allowed it, investigators say
A fifteen year old girl was removed from her home after it was discovered her mother allowed her to run a marijuana business out of her bedroom.
A 15-year-old girl in California was placed into protective custody Friday after deputies discovered she was running what they said was a marijuana business out of her bedroom.
Deputies said the mother provided the marijuana along with other edibles and marijuana accessories.
The teen's mother provided the girl with weed to both use and sell in her bedroom, according to investigators. Deputies say they uncovered "packaged marjuana for sale, marijuana edibles and other items associated with the sales and use of marijuana belonging to the daughter."
The deputies also found loaded AK 47's in the home and the discovery of a makeshift greenhouse in the backyard.
Deputies with the Merced County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant at a home in Delhi on Friday and found a slew of drugs in addition to "loaded AK-47" inside, the department wrote on Facebook.
The sheriff's office said deputies confiscated 180 pounds of weed, 348 marijuana plants and four firearms throughout Merced County on Saturday, the day they announced the arrests.
Two other juveniles were living in the home along with two adults who were arrested.
Two juveniles in the home, including the 15-year-old, were interviewed and taken into custody by Children Protective Services.
Two adults in the home — Norma Angelica Alvarez, 44, and Jose Reyes Martinez, 44 — were arrested.
No telling what could have eventually transpired in that home given that the weapons were loaded. Today we should be thankful that we are not reading yet another story of a family found slain in their homes suspected of having a drug connection. We can also be thankful today that their was a agency available and ready at hand to remove the children and find safe harbor for them to reside. Not that there is really much hope at this juncture that the damage done to the fifteen year old can be undone but if something does happen to her I am sure it will be all the fault of the system who took her to protect her then attributed to the actions of the parents in her upbringing.

Terrible to see these stories of overzealous code enforcement quashing young entrepreneurs.

Only partially, since pot is legal there this seems more akin to one of those lemonade stand incidents than anything else. Her punishment should be having to apply to 10 business schools.
You have to be 21 years of age to possess weed in California and you have to buy it from a licensed dispensary, people are allowed to carry, possess, transport up to one ounce of weed. Michigan goes further then that if it passes this November it will be 2.1 ounces. I guess the .1 must be if one's bag is a bit over, probably not all scales perform to the same precision. If you are a medical marijuana licensee or grow for licensed individuals you can grow your own marijuana. With the amount taken from the home and the fact they took loaded AK47's out shows you just how much these kids were in harms way. Back in the day when I smoked one of my dealers and her boyfriend were robbed and beaten with the butt of guns for far less then this, they usually would buy a brick at a time and sell it. They waited for her to come home from community college one night and caught her by the back door, forced her to let them in then they beat them pretty bad in the head.
yup, in a few years and with a permit it would be perfectly legal for her to do that, perhaps 2.1 ounces is about 60 grams which is a nice round number. Sounds like your friend needed an AK47 handy.

I don't see it as much different from a case where a parent allows a teen to have a drinking party. They should probably get in some sort of trouble but it should probably not be too newsworthy. Usually we only hear about the teen drinking parties when a teen overdoses or crashes and dies as a result of one and then it is a local story, not national, obviously no one overdosed or crashed as a result of this girl selling weed so it just seems like it is being sensationalized because it is pot even though pot is legal there.
It's sensationalized because she was a minor whose parents not only provided the product but openly let her flaunt it and there was not just a shot gun or hand gun laying around but loaded AK 47's at the ready to fend off anyone intent on robbery and/or rival gang members. I would take it she was dealing to her friends, it wasn't like she was being kosher about it, everyone in the neighborhood more than likely knew, it was a just a matter of time, no one gets away with openly flaunting such a operation without others taking notice and that includes more than just the police.
howdy there sunlit7! wow a 15 year old with that kind of business savvy? she'll be out and on to bigger and better things in no time. hey nothing wrong with a loaded AK, all ours are sure as heck loaded, wouldn't do much good if they weren't.

yes well that was a very strange situation indeed, I assume the mother was using her daughter to run this "business"? weird. But at least the police found out about it and shut it down before some tragedy happened.
