RE: Early Pregnancy, an Alert Issue
A part of me does not finish getting used to the mania that the Venezuelan authorities have for hiding official statistics, as if hiding will help them solve a problem, it is simply to close their eyes to the realities and that makes any attempt to solve things difficult .
We have time listening that early pregnancy is very frequent in Venezuela and that is a problem today, but it does not seem to be a separate thing from the most rooted in the way of being of our country. There is a study of this carried out by Dr. Samuel Hurtado that led him to raise the sociological term of "Matrifocality"
According to Hurtado, in the Venezuelan popular culture, the idea is reinforced that the realization of Women is to be a mother, so much so that any other achievement is subject to this goal. Thus, no matter if a woman is professional, independent or successful in her career, she will always have her questioner (for her own family generally) the question: when will you have children?
I believe that also in this field, Dr. Alejandro Moreno Olmedo developed a work of almost 12 years of qualitative research and published the book "The Hoop and the Plot", his observations led to interpretations similar to those of Hurtado and share the idea that Motherhood gravitates with such force on the construction of female identity in Venezuela that it can drive the desire for this realization even in an early stage.
In a more personal aspect, you also have to think that in certain contexts you can find surprises, there is a memory that if it were not real it would be funny: A medical friend said that a mother consulted him along with her daughter, a teenager, being very worried because her daughter who still did not finish high school was not pregnant ... obviously my friend was left without knowing exactly how to explain to the lady that it might be good to leave pregnancies after achieving other goals.
