I grew up in rancho bernardo poway area, a little more inland. 30 mins maybe. My dad carried the radio on his back but was lucky enough to get on with an officer, were they were underground for like 4 of the last 5 months he was there. The average person doesnt understand the importance of the communication that the radio provides. Like a Corpsman or medic with the red cross emblem or a machine gunner, the comm guys radio makes him a high value target for the enemy.
