The consequences of being unschooled

in #familyprotection7 years ago (edited)

I'm so happy @familyprotection is giving the opportunity to write about stuffs like this, i believe with this a lot of people who are willing to assist in anyway will get to know and contribute, this is a great set up... And my euphoriant knows no bound as I am writing for this, I have also sent my contribution. Although I am not a victim of any of these, but I physically know a lot of people who are suffering from things like:

  • Unschooling
  • Homelessness
  • Fatherlessness
  • Child abuse
  • Drug abuse and all sorts..
Because I live in a rural area where things go on and you don't get to miss any...

Unschooling

Children of nowadays, especially in African countries, end up their life in the streets because of illiteracy...

Only the ones who are very lucky get the opportunity to school or perhaps get education to some certain extent...

Let's use a friend of mine as an example... "TAYO".

I just met Tayo, and I was opportune to hear a little about his life and how he struggled for him self to get an N.C.E result.

He was born into an average living family, his father was quite educated, and his mother knew nothing about it, she could hardly read and write.
When Tayo was very young, he was forced to hawk on the main road, he sells groundnut and stuff.

An handsome looking boy who was denied of his right..

Although Tayo wanted to go to school but his father who was also managing his funds, discouraged him and told him to learn a trade, "Education cannot get you anywhere my son, do something valuable with you life and get the reward immediately, not something you'll do without being sure if the reward is certain".
But Tayo had this dogged determination on schooling, he feels dejected when he sees his mates with their bag pack on, going to school.

So he ran out of the house to live in an unknown place...

By that time, Tayo was sixteen already and he had not achieved anything in life, not even a primary education, his parents still add little to fund for his schooling, even if they add to pay it in instalments, but they never did because they saw education as a waste of time.

Tayo's father believed education is demonic, it's just a set up to distract people's time, to being something great, he believes business will fetch you money instantly, he discourages other youths who are also willing to study.

He claims education didn't help him build his home or give him the knowledge to handle his carpentry business, education only wasted his time...

Tayo mixed up with gangs, uneducated friends who are not willing to study, they prefer to eat and sleep in the streets.
This illiteracy led them to

  • Stealing
  • Begging
  • Hard labour jobs
  • Pock nosing
  • Inability to manage themselves
  • Mismanagement
  • Ignorance
  • Getting arrested
  • Blind eye to their career
  • Laxity/complacency
  • Laziness
  • Procrastination etc.

Tayo didn't want a life like this but he had no choice than to join them, but luck found him somehow.

He was awarded a scholarship, after he joined the less privileged organization set by a politician who was seeking a post during an election time..

A scholarship for adults who are willing to study, but don't have the opportunity to, due to financial challenge.

All his friends which they both smoke and follow buses as co - driver/conductor, didn't see anything special in the offer so they all back off, but he still proceeded, despite he being a garage boy already..

He his one of a kind, a garage boy willing to go to school..

His story was so touching, an intelligent young looking guy.

If not for his zeal to study he would still be in the garage, doing all sorts like

  • Raping hawkers
  • smoking cigarettes/weeds
  • Inducing hard drugs
  • Indulging in fight/Crime
  • Causing riot
  • Homeless
  • Unthoughtful act
  • Channelling commercial buses
  • Claiming a territory on the street
  • Popularly known as an hooligan etc.

Illiteracy and Unschooling is one of the major things that brings down a country.
When they are a lot of uneducated people in a country it's brings misunderstanding and riots, because people won't get to flow better, they'll be differences and that will reduce the chance of a country getting better.

usually children who are at risk, either because of their socio-cultural economic and educational level, have a high probability of engaging in criminal behavior, cravings and shortages unfortunately lead to it
