Another Court Case

I’m going to come out and say it. I love that people are taking a stand and fighting back against an unfair and racist system.

Two law firms in Toronto and Quebec are taking the Federal Government of Canada to Court; their documents were submitted this morning and there won’t be a response from the government for awhile.

The just of the court case is Natives are underfunded so the kids aren’t taken care of, there’s not enough money or programs to help the kids stay in their communities or with their family.

The second part deals with Jordan’s Principle, Which is a law that gets kids medical treatment... which the government isn’t following either.

It’s a huge 3 billion dollar case, ironically what it would cost for the government to fix the system so families can stay together.

I’m going to be following the case as close as I can, but we aren’t going to see much of a difference for a few years... but, it’s a huge first step in helping thousands of families at once.

I have to remind everybody about the case in British Columbia that was filed by kids and adults that were in the foster system; Both cases are virtually the same... although the Bc one is against the BC government. Each one will have huge ripple affects across the country.

Most noticeably they’re both asking for the government to be forced to bring in programs specifically tailored to keep the the needs of the kids above all else; And ensure they have the greatest chance of keeping families together.

It’s a good fight.

Are they asking the government to give more funds to the actual Native bands and programs that they run?
Or are they asking the government to give more money to the CPS/Social Services to use for Native programs?

Because I wouldn't want to see the Social Workers having even more funds available to them as they would likely use it to take more children away from their families.

I agree.

It’s more money for the programs to keep the kids in their community and with family first; Support for low income people.

There’s issues with giving money to the band as well, My hope is the money is with third party non-government organizations that use it as a support service.
