8 Public Speaking Tips When Speaking to the Younger (Gen-Y) Generation!steemCreated with Sketch.

Greetings Steemers!
I love speaking to the young public. I enjoy reaching out to them and getting through to them. I have natural capacity to do so.
I hate to use the word Millennials as it can be marketing mumbo jumbo that just seems to upset them. So, I will use Gen-Y as Millennials has picked up a bad rap. Public speaking for the young generations can be exciting. I am 44. I enjoy speaking to them it brings out the best in me. I have quite the reforming attitude.

1. Stop Referring Them as Millennials.
It is a just a generational term. Use their name. Understand that they are people too. They are just young people.

2. Be Yourself & Transparent with an Important Message.
Gen-Y's can smell a pile of dog dung from 7 miles away.
Be honest direct and transparent. Convey that anything that can be earned is worth earning. Fruits of labor can be beautiful. If you are going to speak to them be direct. Let them know you mean business. If you are public speaker find ways to relate. I know Clash of Clans and Snapchat can be something I can connect with them on.

3. Laugh with out Being Too Serious.
Sneaky undertones and forceful points aren't always going to work. Get some laughs going. Crack jokes and make serious emotional points that strike their core values. Friendly and personable is a good approach.

4. Never obscure the message. Get to the point!
When creating content for Gen-Y, hold their attention by being animated. Lot's of body language. Pause for effect.

5. When You Speak. Be Sweetly Succinct!
Keep it short, concise, and presented clearly. Work in 3's when you speak.
The rule of 3's is a powerful speechwriting technique that you should master and execute.

Examples of 3's in speeches:
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Sex, Lies, and Videotape
Superman’s “Truth, Justice, and the American Way“

You get my drift! Now, you know my drift. Now, don't drift off asleep! <---- I just used it here!

  1. Entertain Them.
When you speak make sure that you are never a clown. Folly can take away from seriousness. Entertain, but not at the expense of losing self respect.

  2. Switch It Up! Content Delivery & Speech Methods
They have Apps for just about everything. You need to hold attention in a unique way each time. Make sure when you get up there. You smack them with something strong in the first 5 seconds.

  3. Socratic Method.
If you have an opportunity for discussion then ask questions that make them think. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them think. You could incite thinking with a good question.

"Do not take what I say as if I were merely playing, for you see the subject of our discussion—and on what subject should even a man of slight intelligence be more serious?—namely, what kind of life should one live . . ." - Socrates.

Put things in the form of question that makes them find the answer. The Socratic Method can be used to incite critical thinking in discussions.
