Family Record-Keeping

Today I was inspired to begin a family record book, when we move into our new home. I imagine this book would detail daily household life – weather, housekeeping, notable events/news, garden/livestock records – as well as some some financial information and family "profiles." Nothing as extensive as a genealogical tree, but enough to give context for mine and Husband's lives.

I am concerned about choosing relevant information, and keeping it nice. I want it to be handwritten, and I don't want it to be a "journal," full of thoughts and analysis. Its purpose would be to account for the goings-on, not to comment on them.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of record keeping? Some formatting suggestions or ideas of what to include and what to leave out would be useful. Thanks in advance for commenting!
