SCHOOL CANCELLED

It started off as one of those snow storms. You know the kind where they cancel school BEFORE any snow actually starts to fall? We had a day last week like that. So we prepared with activities for the family to do together. We chanted some with our singing bowls, saged the house, read books, and even did a little yoga! Fun times had by all until........

WE FOUND OURSELVES WITHOUT ELECTRICITY!!!

Have you ever tried to explain to toddlers what electricity is? It's definitely not an easy feat. Moments after the lights went off and the kids realized they were safe, I began receiving requests to put on a movie and to play on the Ipad. This is where it got even more tricky...I had to explain what the internet is and that it too is powered by electricity.

Making Lemonade from Lemons

I had to think fast and create something we could all do as a family. We went back to our human roots and made a fire. Well, a small one with candles! We did what our ancestors did....sing songs and tell stories. I even began to teach my children how fire works. How to respect it and for my four-year-old, how to handle it a little. We ended our evening my exploring in the dark with headlamps playing hide and seek.

The Morning After

By the next morning, the lights were back on and we all had a great nights rest. Good thing, because we all had a blast shoveling and playing in the snow! As for winter and snow, I'm ready for you to go now. I'm so ready for Spring to be here already! Anyone else feel that way?

Beautiful .. wonderful words from you
I liked your style, well done
Thanks for the post

Thank you very much for your kind words!

I feel you man, I have a 5 y-o and a 3 y-o and our TV broke down five months ago, I must confess I miss the TV so much more than them but deep inside I kind of like my girls are not kidnapped by television anymore. I prefer watching them playing in the backyard, watering the plants, playing together, running, getting dirty, writing on the walls... well maybe not writing on the walls, but doing things children did when technology wasn't that fun... and addictive.

Yeah, your right! We are all waiting for spring so we can once again spend loads of time outside! Thank you for your thoughtful comment!!

hmmm you all are having a nice day having fun i wish is also snow in our country and really your chilldren are great and cute
nice pohtography

I like your improvisation strategy @ground2feet

Another person would have been caught in the moments the lights went off. But you handled it well, taken them a bit in reverse into what beauty the world holds before the advent of internet and other paparazzis.

I could see you all catch a lot of fun!

Thank you! It was a blast and a kind of return to nature lol. I also noticed how still the air felt with all the wifi and other things going on normally being off.

What a lovely night! Cute kids btw

You just planted 1.41 tree(s)!
