Welcome back my fellow Steemians. The videos I produce are EXCLUSIVE to STEEMIT before they go live on Youtube. In this video I'll be going over...
How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big
I was reading this book by the creator of Dilbert, Scott Adams, called How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big.
Although Adams is comic creator, he is also a successful businessman.
In chapter three, he shares the first business lesson he ever received.
At the time of this business lesson, Adams was 21 years old, on his way to California, in a cheap suit, sitting next to a man on a plane.
Out of curiosity, which is true of most successful people, they’re very curious. Scott asked the man on the plane what he did and it turned out he was a successful CEO of a company. Since he liked Scott he gave him his first lesson...
"Every time I get a new job, I immediately start looking for a better one. The way I look at it, I don't owe my current boss any loyalty. He can fire me any time. So what do I do? I keep my options open, always looking for a better opportunity. I didn't invent capitalism - I'm only playing by its rules."
Scott took his advice at heart.
And since then, he kept looking for the best opportunity he could find and he found it, Dilbert.
Now he’s the boss.
The man on the plane was right. You must never rely too much on your current job. Everything seems fine for a while. And then, one day, you are replaced by someone who is younger and gets paid way less than you.
Your boss didn't invent capitalism, but he will play by its rules.
Before the time comes, you should tip the odds in your favor.
