5 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT NEPAL WE DISCOVERED WHILE BEING THERE FOR ONE MONTH | (PHOTOS)

in #facts6 years ago (edited)

Nepal was the 9th country we explored in 4 months.
We loved it a lot. It was probably our second favorite country after Iran.
Last time I shared a video about our volunteering experience in Nepal.
This time I would like to share 5 interesting facts my girlfriend @Kamile and I
discovered while spending there 30 days. :)))

[1.] NEPAL HAS NEVER BEEN COLONIZED BY FOREIGNERS

Through all its history of border expansion and contraction, Nepal has never been colonized and ruled by foreigners. Therefore, Nepal celebrates no Independence Day.

[2.] "NAMASTE" MEANS "I SALUTE GOD IN YOU"
namaste nepalese word.jpg
The people of Nepal greet each other with their palms placed together. They bow their foreheads and say “Namaste” as is done in neighboring India. This literally means, “I salute the God in you.”

[3.] IT IS ILLEGAL TO SLAUGHTER COWS IN NEPAL

As a national animal of the country, slaughtering of cows is illegal in Nepal. It is not uncommon to see cows wandering around the streets of Kathmandu and Pokhara.

[4.] NEPALI CALENDAR IS 67 YEARS AHEAD OF GEORGIAN CALENDAR
Nepali Calendar is 67 years ahead of Gregorian Calendar..jpg
The Nepali calendar called Bikram Sambhat is approximately 67 years and 8.5 months ahead of the Gregorian calendar. The Nepali New Year is celebrated in mid-April.

[5.] NEPAL IS KNOWN AS AMAZON OF ASIA

In Nepal grow 5,980 flowering plant species including two percent of the world’s orchids (more than 360 species), six percent of the world’s rhododendron species (and it’s Nepal’s national flower), and 250 species endemic to Nepal (and not found growing anywhere else on earth). This is one of the reasons Nepal is known as the Amazon of Asia.
