It is quite disheartening looking at the caliber of graduates our institutions of higher learning churn out yearly. Many of these graduates have been labeled unemployable by employers of labour.

It is imperative that I offer this piece of advice. To the undergraduates, first Class or second class honours will not save you. The world today has evolved from what did you graduate with to what can you offer differently?.

We all have God given talents, even the bible makes it clear that a man's gift will make him sit and dine with kings. Don't even bring up the argument that you don't have a gift or talent because no human born of a woman is bereft of talent(s), gifts or ideas.

Listen, we are quick to point accusing fingers to our "village people" as the "masterkraft" of our problems. Have we actually examined ourselves? As a young person, have you asked yourself this question, What difference can I make in a company/organization/institution that I'm seeking employment that other job seekers in the same place can't?

Most of our undergraduates are so lazy that they don't make extra effort to develop themselves outside what they are taught in school. Same applies to other young people out there, what efforts are you making to develop yourself?

On the other hand, the curriculum of most departments in our tertiary institutions needs to be revisited. Many of our lecturers are still analogue and are quite lazy to embrace the digital world. It is pertinent that our lecturers become abreast with latest developments in their various fields of specialization.

To our students, don't wait for the institutions or your teachers, go out there and get hands on with the practical aspect of what you are studying. Bear the cost now, deny yourself the luxury of life and channel the money to perfecting what you're studying.

Many won't come to terms with these realities till they leave the four walls of the tertiary institution.

In 2018, get a skill whether as a student or civil servant. Learn a skill, when salaries fail, skill will sustain or augment your earnings.

Here here! I think students nowadays think that once they finish Uni, the world is their oyster and it will be an easy ride! Half of that is true, but it is not because of a Uni degree, they will have to work just as hard as everyone else at finding their place in the world. Success takes dedication, passion, individuality and last of all, skill.

"On the other hand, the curriculum of most departments in our tertiary institutions needs to be revisited. Many of our lecturers are still analogue and are quite lazy to embrace the digital world. It is pertinent that our lecturers become abreast with latest developments in their various fields of specialization."

I will focus my thoughts on this.

I was in a meeting of Education stakeholders in Anambra State sometime ago and a "Prof" in one of our citadels of learning boast of how he still makes use of a lesson note he made in 1980s, it only took the efforts of my Principal and that of the Honorable Commissioner to query the man on the validity of his lessons.

It's is so archaic and shameful that our teachers both in Primary, Post-Primary and Higher Institutions cannot boast of modern instructional methodology/or update themselves in tending topics.

This shows that our Education system needs total overhauling and reforms inevitable so as to produce great minds that works in tandem with time. We cannot be in the 21st century and still boast of 19th century Education system., it can't work.

I call on all concerned bodies to look into our Education system and salvage the situation.
