Now you know
In recent times, most household equipments and other materials have been misunderstood or say misinterpreted therefore keeping it's users guessing why they look that way or say why they have certain features.
Well, i will enlighten us on some of these features, what they mean and why they are part of these materials, so the next time you handle them you will not be confused as to why they possess those features.
Pen cap hole
A lot of people think that the hole in a pen cap actually helps the ballpoint pen not to dry out or to balance the pressure on the pen nib to prevent the ink from licking, well, if you are among these set of people i would say you are completely wrong.
Now let's look at it this way, most children (age 5 and below) tends to put almost everything they lay their hands on into their mouth, now take for instance a 3 years old girl chews on the pen cap and it accidentally gets into her throat, if the pen cap has no hole, the child will probably suffocate and die in a short while, now you know what I'm getting at, right?
The hole in a pen cap is actually a safety innovation to prevent chocking, just in case anyone (not just children) chews on it and accidentally swallows it and it stays in the throat, the hole allows for ventilation and buys more time for it to be removed before things go south. My advice is that if you have little children around, these types of pens with cap holes will suffice to use.
Holes and pressure
Have you ever noticed a little hole in the window of an aeroplane and freaked out or wondered what it's meant for? You will get your answer, sit tight and enjoy this cruise.
That little hole is there for 2 reasons, the first reason is to balance the pressure between the outer window and the inner part of the aeroplane when the plane climbs to a cruising altitude, there's a huge pressure difference between the inside and the outside of an aeroplane. The hole is there to regulate some of that difference so that the outer window doesn't have to do all the work. The other reason is to prevent the windows from fogging up.
Extra piece
I personally have been getting this wrong the whole time, you know that extra piece of fabric that comes with new clothes? Hehe, most of us probably always thought it was there for patches, right? We all have been wrong about this if your answer is "yes".
As a matter of fact, the manufacturer of these clothes includes that little sample of material so you can test how different laundry detergents/soaps will react on your new cloth/garment. Eye opener, yea?
Lil P
Don't be carried away by the name i call it, it's something we all know, you know that little pocket on your jean pants? That's what I'm talking about. Now lets go into history.
In the 19th century, gold miners keeps their pocket watch in these pockets when jeans was first invented, also, wild west cowboys use these pockets for the same reason, but i doubt young lads of these days ever make use of it except they are trying to hide a few bucks, lol.
The studs/rivets
What about the studs on these same jeans? It's simple!
The first pairs of jeans produced had a little problem, it seems to tear due to stress being put on them by the workmen and miners who wore them, as they deep their hands into the pockets mostly within short time intervals, the rivets just exists to strengthen the trousers at the most conspicuous spots.
There is no doubt you've been enlightened, don't forget, their is no University of experience, neither is there a Faculty for it as it is and will remain the best teacher.
Cheers!!!
