The new Facebook is awesome!
Something has changed at Facebook recently and I am considering going back and using it more. In the last week or so, I am getting inundated with friend requests. Not only that, I don't know any of these people and they are all hot women. It makes me feel popular and attractive! I was about to start writing this post and was lamenting not having taken screenshots of these women who all suddenly want to be connected with me (I figure it is because Steem prices are increasing) when this happened:

'She' wants me so much that 'she' has made three profiles to get my attention! Jealous much?
Here are a couple more pics from the profile that has zero friends as they were all just created. To translate the Finnish, there is hot, fantasy, fetish, cum.... yeah.. you get the idea. Essentially in the last week, there have been about 40 such requests yet not all have linked to some random site, there have been plenty that were more 'innocent'.
Now, ten minutes later, the requests have been removed (most likely reported or a Facebook algorithm) but, I am somewhat skeptical as to the innocence of Facebook in this. From what I have heard, there has been a crushing of people's content through new feed algorithms so that even subscribed viewers aren't seeing it in their feeds.
This is to increase promoted post revenue probably but, there is also going to be attempts to keep engagement from dipping as some posters look for better platforms or, to keep their 'time on site' numbers up for advertising purposes. It is also possible that the changes they have made to their filters have allowed what was previously caught, slip through to users. I don't really know but for me, this points to another reason Facebook is going to have a hard time keeping up in the future. They are to blame.
A centralised system may be able to control more but, it is also a weak point to target as the community is separate from the authority. This means it sets up a potential scenario of rebellion, an 'Us vs Them' situation when the community comes under threat from things such as spammers. People expect Facebook to clean up things like spam and when they don't do it well, they are the ones who failed. This goes for every change they implement and challenge they face.
At Steemit however, you may have noticed something quite different in regards to something like Spam. Even though there are negotiations continually ongoing with steemdevs on how to manage it, it is the spammers themselves that are the focus of attack. A decentralised, uncensored environment is made up of many individuals that create a community and as such, bad actors within are handled by the community itself. I am not sure if everyone grasps the importance of this.
What this means is that the community we have here and all people within it are responsible for the operation and development of it. Yes, some have more power than others either through stake or position but, everyone has some power to act, interact and enact change if they choose. At Steemit, no one is a completely helpless victim at the mercy of an authority or insensitive algorithm as all are potentially active players who can build with a large amount of freedom. When there are challenges, it is all of us who can develop solutions and if we don't, it is all of us who fail.
As more of the world starts to drop the trained monkey action of bowing down to authority, it will be places like Steemit and Steem operated, decentralised platforms that they will flock to as they will want to take back their agency and become a player again, instead of a consumer tied to the whims of an authority. And these authorities have proven time and time again that it is centralising profits over all else, whereas the decentralised communities will increasingly benefit from profit sharing.
In my opinion, decentralised systems like this not only protects us in many ways, they also encourage more of us to be a part of the community. Personally, this is the biggest reason I am trying to build stake here as I see that being a part of this community that will hopefully spill into the real world more and more, may be the most valuable thing I will do in my life for me, my family and everyone else. It gives us all a chance to take the responsibility back and be good actors for improvement rather than leaving it up to someone else to do for us.

Note: I am rarely on Facebook even though I used to be there quite a lot at one point as it was a way for me to share photos with friends and connect with family on the other side of the world. Well, that pretty much ended with Steemit but it was on the way out for a long time. I still keep the profile and occasionally post some photos of our daughter for friends and family to see how she grows. There are some advantages to having a closed profile. At some point when I am more comfortable with doing it, I will announce to them all that I have migrated to Steemit.
I also searched the name in the off chance it was a real person but couldn't find a match. Obviously the images are a real person however and have likely been ripped from Instagram... Who owns that platform again?

LOL this made me laugh . This is the reason why I deactivated my Facebook. So many desperate people on there that are willing to stalk us by making fake profiles . Like why would I even accept if I don’t know you and you literally joined yesterday .
They need steemcleaners on that platform to handle this business
Perhaps @patrice can outsource #steemcleaners :D
lol... Please no.. I have enough work here! 😜
And it is much appreciated :)
hahahah, you facebook-pimp!! ;)))
This Steemprice rise is really drawing a lot of new people I have to say. Even my rep54 and 550 SP is apparently enough for new people to come begging for votes already. Luckily this didnt start on facebook as yet!
I am going to get a thick gold chain with and light joints with 50 dollar notes :D
BTW, hold your 550 SP a few years and it will hopefully one day be enough to retire on ;)
power up when I have the chance! morrrrrre SP.. One day, one day!
So jealous... all I got today was a suggestion I might like a page about Trucks!!! Maybe I should've checked out the page, maybe there were some truckers, too!?
I use Facebook to follow some news organizations, but it does seem there are some changes coming. There's some advice going around to prioritize the pages you really want to see, otherwise there's the risk their posts might get drowned in spam. Actually, there was a message from FB that they're looking for ways to offer a better experience and show you what topics are more popular and shit like that.
lol
A better experience for marketers and advertisers.
Facebook said they were going to be changing the algorithm to show more things from your friends and family, but I think once they moved away from just doing a chronological display of what was happening, they lost it. It wasn't really compelling for me to use anyways, plus you add that they don't care about privacy, and I don't trust their CEO at all. I still have an account, but don't use it much.
The spam here is annoying, but it's not as bad as it could be. There are some groups like steemcleaners that sort some things out. There are still plenty of issues with people just copying stuff from other sites and posting here, but overall most of the content from the people that I follow is good.
Sorry your new friends at FB didn't work out. ;) Glad to have you here though. I enjoy getting to see your work.
I have the same deal and to find new people, I use chats and comments sections.
My wife wouldn't have been impressed anyway.
My wife is not the jealous type because she knows that she's the love of my life. So just for fun I asked her what she thought about those girls friending me and she said, "Awww, hell no!"
Priceless!
Haha, that blonde looks very similar to one of the many women that also want me on Facebook. I'm just HOT (or they're all blind), and this proves it! lol
I was just reading an article last night about how many people have quit using Facebook. They could shut it down tomorrow, and I wouldn't even know it. Unless I saw it on Steemit. ;-)
I'm not a fan of Google/YouTube either. Maybe you can tell from my Steemit name?
"A decentralized, uncensored environment is the only way to go!"
Personally, I also think the federal government should be dissolved in it's current state, and moved to the blockchain. There could be no corruption, and no need to act like we trust those that we know can't be trusted! We could have some type of Proof-of-Stake system in place, with a certain number of nodes in each state, and the states could vote on the things that required it. After we subtract the costs, including the massive corruption, I figure we could operate our new, "BitGov" for about 0.00004% of what this criminal government cost us. If there was to be a war, it would be because WE ALL DECIDED THERE WAS NO OTHER OPTION!!
We could turn the White House into a museum, and use the Federal Reserve building to imprison the politicians and bankers. I think that would be poetic justice. There would mostly likely be some, however, that would probably be given much harsher sentences due to their Treason, and we could let them swing from the Washington Memorial. W-h-e-e-e.
LEGALIZE FREEDOM!!
Great post!
I'm less and less on Facebook these days, for similar reasons.
they may be same followers on Steemit, especially if you use the same name, i have not used Facebook for a long time
There was a report a while back that Facebook was creating internal "shadow profiles" based on real user profiles, whatever that means. FB likes to boast awesome ROI on its ad tech, but that's been also publicly called into question. What a scandal it would be if FB was creating fake users to pump up its ad tech numbers to lure in ad dollars. This is just me thinking out loud, though. I have no idea/proof this is actually happening. All I know is that I downloaded a Chrome extension that blocks the newsfeed, and my life is better for it.
I definitely had a good chuckle with this story. Thanks for writing, @tarazkp. I actually warned a friend about an account that I thought was impersonating her, but it turns out she just created a second account.
The problem is that they need never show their books on this. (if it was happening)
I think there is a lot of dodgy behaviour going on.
Facebook seems to be having a lot of pitfalls lately, I wasn't active there, and when I joined steemit, I kinda forgot that I had a Facebook account. It's almost the same for every steemian.
Yeah, same here these days but I do still have family and friends in Australia I want to be able to share some things with and for some, there is little option for them but Facebook.
You just hit on a point there, that I've thought about. It would be great if some of the great developers of Steemit could eventually build-in a slimmed-down, Facebook-similar application to the Steemit platform.
DTube is great as a replacement for YouTube, it's gaining in popularity, and I think it can eventually get there. Then there'll be no need to worry if some evil overlord is going to demonetize your videos because they don't agree with their perverted view of the world!
It will happen in time as anyone can create an interface. SMTs will also affect this a bit.
Ah, as I see the 1000 years old fake hot girl method from blackhatforum still spreads. When I first started to look into online money making a few years ago, every second "guru" talked about this shady/stupid(or really clever?) thing.
Basically, this is it:
-> Make a fake profile with a good looking female
-> Send friend requests to hundreds/thousands of men
-> Click-bait them into some crap that pays for referrals, clicks, buys, etc.
People made fortunes with this years ago. Not even kidding. New profile->5k friends, next one->5k friends and so on. I've read the stories, but it became worthless really soon. Thankfully, Facebook invented an algorithm years ago that bans profiles like this in minutes but people still don't seem to give up.
