The 5 Hours Session, Mark Zuckerberg Shoot Out by US Senators

in #facebook6 years ago

US Senators (US) hawks Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg with questions in a Congressional hearing on data leaked 87 million Facebook users and how the company runs their business.

Zuckerberg had to answer a detailed question of 44 senators for five hours in a trial that took place on Capitol Hill, Washington.

Senator Richard J. Durbin asked Zuckerberg to answer the question: "Do you feel comfortable conveying to us the name of the hotel where you were staying last night?", Which Zuckerberg answered "no", to emphasize that losing control over the personal details of such Facebook users it was the one who forced the deployment of the trial.

They ask questions regarding privacy invasions and other issues that plague Facebook, including foreign spying practices using social networking to influence elections, spreading hate speech and calls for ethnic violence in Myanmar, as well as its vulnerability to discriminatory market practices.

Again, and again, Zuckerberg was asked about how 87 million Facebook users got to Cambridge Analytica, a political consulting firm working for the Trump campaign.

We do not use a fairly broad view of our responsibilities, and that's a big mistake. That's my fault, and I'm sorry.

California senator Dianne Feinstein demanded how Cambridge Analytica was not banned when Facebook learned that the firm committed a violation several years ago.

Another California senator, Kamala Harris, demanded an explanation as to why Facebook waited until the media learned about the offense, just a few months ago, to pass on the information to its users.

"We see it as a mistake because we do not tell people," Zuckerberg said.

Knowing what's happening now, we should be able to do many different things.

The LA Times reported Zuckerberg answered the senator's questions with confidence and rarely stammered, and judged Congress not really ready to dig up information from social media like Facebook.

When policymakers finally got Zuckerberg to answer their questions under oath about Facebook's role in the 2016 General Election and the privacy protection of the company, they had trouble communicating clearly what changes they really wanted from the company according to the LA Times broadcast.

Wow, that's interesting!
We recently posted an article about how the community is now requesting for Mark Zuckerberg to step down as CEO from Facebook! This all happened after the scandal with lack of protecting user's privacy. Anyways, go check out the article when you get a chance and let me know what you think👋🏼! I found a recap video of the hearing on Tuesday and posted it also! I'll take you to it so follow me!
