Almost everyone on Steemit have prophesied that Steemit is the Facebook Killer and for a long time I have held that notion strongly and this made me stop visiting Facebook
I only used Twitter as a way to still keep in touch with the outside world and I also used it to connect with my Steemit friends like @greenrun, @sandstorm and @stellabelle, we always shared views on Twitter and it was like a place to rest from the Steemit Buzz
One thing I have discovered is that Innovation is fast but we Humans are slow in comparism, just like here on Steemit there will always be the early adopters but it will always be a while before the rest of the population get what is happening and jumps aboard
This Prophesy of Steemit replacing Facebook is not new when it comes to Technology, when the Televison came out, it was widely spread that It will suffocate the Radio and cause it to die a natural death, but that did not happen. The same thing happened when the Internet came aboard and it the death of the Televison was again prophesied but we now have WebTv
The funny thing is that the Radio is now coming back in the form of Podcasting and Voice, this is one of the reasons why I have high hopes for d-sound and I hope that @prc takes it serious as its potentials are huge
Killing Facebook
Coming From a World of IBM, it has been proven that no Tech Company has held on extensively to the reins of power, they have always fizzled out mostly due to the fact that they fail to Innovate
However, companies like Facebook and Google are turning themselves into many headed Hydras,And they are not just ordinary Hydras, their numerous heads also come with Tentacles
The only company that is giving them a huge Run for their Money right now Is Amazon who is giving them a huge run for their Money with a lot of Innovation, and topping the List in my Opinion is Alexa and also their strongly rumored Involvement In Blockchain
Amazon recently Purchased Three Cryptocurrency related Domains which Includes AmazonEtherum, AmazonCryptocurrency and AmazonCryptocurrencies, they had also purchased AmazonBitcoin a while back
When It comes to Steemit Versus Facebook, I have found out that Most Steemians (Including Me) have had a massive disrespect for Facebook and how powerful it is now
In my opinion Steemit will never replace Facebook. Facebook itself is growing stronger by the day. 98% of the people on Steemit does not actually know what is going on.
Facebook recently acquired TBH a secret polling app that has become popular among high school kids in the US. And that app is going to do for polling what musical.ly is doing for Voice.
Facebook also recently launced WATCH which my opinion is going to cut a huge market share from Youtube when it comes to advertising. Because with Watch you can target a particular demographic which is is hard to do with Youtube.
Facebook is an amazing place for any serious business blogger. We have always complained that Facebook uses algorithms to present us with things that makes us addictive to the Platform, but they Algorithm also makes it possible for us to use it for Something Good
Even though Facebook has come under fire over the last few months due to the Mess they created for themselves with propaganda Ads for Russians that was believed to have helped Donald Trump win the Last U.S election, I believe that it is still going to be a long time before we heard the last of Zucks.
The Return
Even though I strongly believe in the Industrial Application aspect of Steemit, I believe that we still have a long way to go before it is fully achieved and I also believe that it will be a long time before it will be fully achieved here In Nigeria
I have been doing a lot of Studies lately when it comes to Agriculture, I have always had a Passion for it so I decided to go Into it fully by Next year, I have already made major steps in that Direction lately
Nigeria is projected to be the third most populous country by 2050, while at the same times research is showing that the World is heading towards Food Scarcity. I have come in Contact with great minds like @bania on this Platform and my eyes has been opened to the amazing oportunities that are waiting for us to grab them
After studying the History of WHOLE FOODS this morning I found out that there are immense opportunities sitting out there in the Open that we have failed to capitalize on
I have always know that Facebook was also a blogging Platform, but i never took it that way, but recent studies and observation has opened a whole new world for me in that aspect, I found out that Instead of Hating and shunning Facebook, I can actually use it to bootstrap my business and It can also help connect me with people that can help me achieve my vision
I opened my Facebook for the First time after Three Months and I was amazed by the Number Of changes that has been made to the user Interface, but my first order of Business was trim down my over 1500+ Friends
I ended up Unfriending over 1100 people and I have started following people whose Content will be of value to Me, One thing about Social Media is that the quality of your followings determines the Quality of the Content that comes to You
There is something funny I discovered, none of my friends Inboxed me over my three Month period to ask me why I have been absent, this is one of the things we see on Facebook we are presented with Friends of Friends and we send out multiple friend request to people we end up never chatting with
I now know that going back to Facebook is not an avenue to while away my time, I am going back with a Mission to Interact with great Minds on that Platform that can give me the knowledge I need to pursue my Vision
I have to Start doing on Facebook what I have been doing on Steemit for the past Nine Months and that is engaging and interacting with great Minds, just Like Steemit there are also amazing people on Facebook who actually have susbstance and I can also bring them to Steemit along the way
I know that I would have gotten a lot of traction on Facebook by now if I have realized its Blogging and Connection opportunites early On and started treating it as such
Steemit is no doubt the Future of Blogging/Social Media, but I believe that it still has a long way to go before it gets a huge Market share of the Online Platform Pie
I am not leaving Steemit though, I will Still be very active here, but I am spreading my Attention to Facebook too because it is obviously here to Stay
Do you think that dividing my attention between Steemit and Facebook Is a total waste of my Time?, Or do you have anything else to say?, Please share your thoughts In the Comments below, I will like to hear from You
In terms of Steemit being a FB killer, no way. Maybe in our wildest imagination, with a complete redesign, Steemit might compete in terms of a social media platform. But for now, it's way too clunky.
I wouldn't go back to FB, simply because I don't have the same motivator to post content there. Although FB is a superior platform, the content is only as good as the content providers. Most people I see on FB treat is as Pinterest and post website links, rather than personal messages and blogs. For marketing, FB is the way to go, given it's acceptance and popularity, but for blogging, no way.
I'm especially enjoying Steemit right now because STEEM is so low, people who are blogging only for profit have lost interest and those blogging for actual 'esteem' are remaining active. This has increased the quality of posts, in my opinion. Of course, the thing to remember is not the value of STEEM now, but what it will be next year and beyond. Maybe it will flop and all this time spent for little financial gain... maybe it will skyrocket and we will be glad to continued through this big dip.
Most people I see on FB treat is as Pinterest and post website links, rather than personal messages and blogs. For marketing, FB is the way to go, given it's acceptance and popularity, but for blogging, no way.
This is why you really need to Audit the people you are Friends with on Facebook. That will greatly influence the Quality of Content that comes to you.
If I am friends with people who make quality posts on Facebook i would not be bothered about Spammy links.
As for the Price Of Steem, the only time it disturbs me is when I want to Withdraw but apart form that, I don't use it as a Yardstick to determine my Level of Contribution to the Platform. I will always create content and add value whether the price of Steem is 20 cents or 20 dollars.
I don't worry about friends on fb. I post to groups almost exclusively and I am in almost 800 of them in my niches. I can reach millions with a week's worth of posting over there compared to the less than 5000 active people here.
I also run fb pages in my niches and post keyword rich posts for my products and services and related information. People find these by search - slow drip - but it works.
Steemit does not have enough people and this is my biggest worry for the place. 98% of noobs do not make it to rep 45 and few care. This is a big reason (but not the only one) why I cannot put all my eggs in one basket here.
yes, steemit has no advertising and also has a "circle" jerk inner circle rewarding each other despite the content being good or bad.
This is steemit's problem, and will have to be corrected. It could be a facebook killer but there is too much greed involved. Facebook has no monetary reward for regular users. But if facebook eventually involved some form of monetary reward for every user; GOODBYE steemit. They could easily implement their own cryptocurrency-like application. So steemit is behind, and will continue to do so. I am not sure how motivated steemian whales would be since they are already raking it in. I really do not care either way. I am on facebook and steemit. I don't like facebook for many reasons. But they have great videos and are raking it in with the advertising that I have to wait for. In order for steemit to make it main stream it will need to have alternative revenue come in, and it will need to get rid of the folks who are circle jerking everyone.
I agree that Steemit has it's problems, but I also believe that the platform is still young and cannot handle the level of expectations we have placed on it at the moment.
When it comes to advertising on Steemit, it is very possible, but it will not be done with the traditional links or banner ads, Companies will have to unlock the industrial application potentials of Steemit.
They will have to purchase Steem Power to make their Content visible and they also have to deploy a massive amount of Content Marketing In order to make the Impact they need.
Most of the Companies we have here so far are companies like @blocktrades who already have an early understanding of how the system works but they are also yet to Capitalize on it.
I believe that if @blocktrades plays their content game well they can suffocate other exchanges like Bittrex and Changelly on this platform.
When it comes to Greed, Circle voting is one of the reasons why people no longer take the Reputation Score seriously as it no longer fully connotes Value or Contribution.
But I believe that with time we will come up with the solutions to the problems we are facing on Steemit.
We are in beta, I believe steemit would only get better with time. And about the "circle jerks," they are only human, and humans are bound to have alliances who they favor. So, it is just like life the rich would always get richer, all you could do is to try to break into the circle, and enjoy the jerk off :)
yes unfortuntely I learned many whales become so not because they earned it but because of premined Steem distributed. This would be illegal in the “real” world. In any case I live with it. You think all those whales really had $500,000 lying around :)
An interesting viewpoint will spearmint steemit poses no problems for an experience blogger for a novice poster the curation barrier poses a difficulty that Facebook doesn't have I think this is keeping a lot of people from the network that it is curation rather than communication based on the other hand Facebook now only shows pages when you pay for ads so you're either a personal family member without an axe to grind or a business person trying to sell something both of which are the antithesis to social networking
Most Steemains still find curation difficult as they don't fully understand what it entails.
Even those who rent SP from Minnow Booster still find it difficult to get Value for the renting, they believe that they will be able to earn back the Money and make a profit by just upvoting their posts.
When it comes to Facebook ads, the recent alsorithm changes is making it more hard for small businesses to survive and they are pushing more to the Paid ads. It is hard to get free publicity in Facebook right now.
But any wise brand will jump onto Facebook WATCH now that it is Cheap and they will also need learn how to use Instagram Influencers to drive their business .
This is a great piece and maybe this is coincidental, because I spent almost 5 hours today scrolling through facebook and reshuffling my cabinet because i want to stage a comeback on the platform.
Though, my plan is to go back to the platform as a celebrity - meaning that i am going to turn to my facebook profile to a page and spend some money to sponsor most of my posts there.
Even if Facebook will drain down, it will surely take a long time, so there's more we can quickly do to use the platform for our good.
P.S. Thanks for the mention boss, I really appreciate
Even though Facebook drains people by trying to make them addictive to the platform. You still have control over the quality of Information that comes to you.
And you can also do major damage to your Competitors if you use Facebook well.
I believe that we still have a long way to go before it is fully achieved
I think you are correct. Steemit is not a Facebook killer. Steemit is a different beast to FB. And, you're correct that FB has the rich tools around it that make it work for business. Steem the blockchain can (and people are) develop tools that give more and more functionality. At that point, and if Steemit has the user base to give the network effect, then Steems ecosystem of apps/tools could be a contender. But, that is not right now and may even be years away.
Amazon recently Purchased Three Cryptocurrency realated Domains which Includeds AmazonEtherum, AmazonCryptocurrency and AmazonCryptocurrencies, they had also purcahsed AmazonBitcoin a while back
As for the domain names secured by Amazon, it’s likely due to them just securing the sites to protect their brand name. Many companies snatch up sites using their name in order to keep others from using them.
Going back to Facebook could help grow your business. I use twitter to promote my steemit posts. You too could leverage on Facebook to grow your business. Being exclusive to steemit is just a matter of choice. I always tell people to follow the path that best works for me. No one size fits all.

That also crossed my mind but I believe that it applies to one of either Amazon Cryptocurrency/Cryptocurrencies.
Amazon made a statement that the reason it has not fully gone into Bitcoin is because there is no demand for it yet.
Also I have realised that being exclusive to Steemit will greatly reduce my Audience and Customer Base.
I know part of Amazon hesitation may stem from the fluctuating property of bitcoin's price. Most businesses prefer a more stable currency. Most online purchases are also done via credit and debit cards. We can only hope it accepts cryptocurrency as it'd be a win for all of us hodling cryptocurrencies.
I use facebook before i found steemit and i intend making use of it even while i steem here. Only that I use it mostly to connect with my family since most of them rather remain members of facebook. I post often here than I do on fb now...
Hi @ogochukwu
dividing your attention between steemit and Facebook obviously wont be a waste of time for you based on the plans you have for it , i totally agree with the fact that the contents of following determines the contect that comes to you because for me right now with my experience on steemit if i log in my Facebook account and go through the content its either i just hiss, get pissed and walk away, i know thats as a result of too many irrelevant friends, for me to be able to share my attention between this 2 platforms i actually need to do a proper sanitation like you just did. The level of motivation steemit as been able to impact in just a few years facebook could not achieve that in many years, yes steemit can not send facebook to its early grave like most people predict facebook will remain for its purpose of business promotion purpose. Like @greenrun said steemit is in beta and it will get better.
Thanks @phunke

Hello @eturnex
Just like every piece of Innovation, we are yet to Tap into the full potentials of the Steem Blockchain.
And 99% of the People On Steemit still don't know what they are sitting on.
I myself who have been studying it have not even Scratched the Surface of what it embodies.
We just have to keep on looking. But I believe that we still have a long way to go.
@ogochukwu

Hello @blogtrovert
First of all, I love this your Username.
Facebook is more of a place to connect with friends and Family if you are not doing business online.
Steemit lets you do both with Incentive.
Coming to take a peek at your blog.
@ogochukwu
Thanks :)
<One thing about Social Media is that the quality of your followings determines the Quality of the Content that comes to You
Don't true. Everyday once I get birthday alert from Facebook, I'll just go and remove some people who post Shits.
Currently steemit is not a threat to Facebook because most people know steemit are busy making money on steemit, no one is reaching out.
Hello @samstickkz
Reaching out is not a problem, the main problem is addressing the problems we have so that we will be able to retain the newbies who come in.
The Steemicide been commited on this Platform is huge.

Hello @phunke
My former disdain for Facebook was clearly illustrated with this Line. But I am just glad that I have found the right way to go about it.
And Yes Steemit is a School, there are a lot of amazing content being published daily on this platform.
