Facebook Launch Fake News Crackdown Site - 'Factbook'

STAFF WRITER: As public trust and share values over at Facebook continue to plummet, the social media number one has decided to "soft launch" a new sister site 'Factbook' with the tagline "the check to end all checks".

The idea behind the new concept, which it's hoped will become a "positive evolution" for the ailing corporation "going forward", is a "self-certification authenticity management" system at the "point of posting".

When quizzed about the development, Facebook's virtual VP of Specialist Hub Information Technology, Jerry Wong, said: "So, quite frankly, we're sick of having to make the call on everyone else's posts, and then copping it when - in the worst case scenarios, #wcs - presidents get elected or the UK leaves the EU."

"Basically, the new S-CAM system will ask users to tick a box, when posting any content, that promises what they're uploading is true," he added, with a sense of relief. "The change will not only help us restore faith among users, it'll also save loads on graphic design and corporate identity changes, given that we're only changing one letter in our branding as it rolls out, platform-wide."

In line with the company's motto "move fast and break things", the potential game-changer has been criticised for its hasty April 1st launch and the disruptive nature of the idea.

"We have had to move fast, and are delighted to be breaking the winds of change, as it were," said the exhausted and clearly sleep-deprived executive. "We are not scared or desperate, we're just keen to keep investors happy, which should be the number one priority of any tech firm that puts people first, on this occasion, finance people.

Critics have also slammed the idea as toothless gesture politics that pass the big buck of responsibility from corporation to community. However, Leo Schmidt of Tech Industry analysts and Web3.0 futurists - #techitorleaveit.com - suspects that Facebook will have state of the art measures to gently encourage and even enforce compliance.

"So, our experts are predicting that Facebook will literally attach a 'blockchain' to any fake news makers, bots and trolls that try to abuse the new system. In everyday terms, that a non-technical person can understand, this means wrong-doers will not only be blocked, but virtually chained as well. It'll be like being put on the Internet's naughty step," added the thought leader and author of BINternet - 'How the Web made Everything Rubbish'.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg did not offer a comment, but Valley insiders say he's very supportive of anything that saves on staff costs and increases the value of Facebook stock, even if it involves being truthful and transparent.

A fake news consultant, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "So, this check to end all checks nonsense will certainly end my pay checks. I may have to go back into journalism if this witch-hunt continues and people don't stop banging on about the truth. Honestly."

Comment: Whilst Valley insiders may be dismissing 'Factbook' as merely fake news on the 1st April, at TechRaunch we believe two wrongs may actually make a right. We urge Facebook to move forward with this innovative use of decentralization, Blockchain technology and financial people-pleasing.
