Our "State/Country" is the blockchain.
Our "Constitution" is the code.
Our "Nation" are all of us Steemians.
So, the parallel can be presented in that way, as the responsibilities that a countries and nations governance has to uphold and protect the constitution, are comparable to that of Witnesses and our role in the Steem ecosystem.
Not identical by no means, but definitely comparable as far as responsibilities and duties go.
