Steem user onboarding with Fiat. Three options now and more on the way.
The whole onboarding issue (account creation) is being solved by the community and more fiat (euro, dollars) entry points for the creation of Steem accounts are popping up.
That's good news.
What I like about paid onboarding is that you get an account straight away and in some cases it even comes with Steem Power delegation so that the new user doesn't run into RC problems straight away (giving new users a bad first experience).
Remember you only need one account to access ALL the apps on the Steem Blockchain so it's only a small investment imho for what you get in return.
Here are several account creation options with Fiat:
Steem Monsters
This was the first app in combination with a starter set to offer account creation with Fiat as far as I know.
For $10, you get a starter set and a Steem account.
Steem Wallet
Steem Wallet recently released a new version in which it is now possible to buy an account in app via the Apple Store or Google Play Store for $4.
Any person that can buy an app on their phone can now buy a Steem account. Perfect!
(I tested it and it works fine).
Steem Ninja.
Steem ninja, lets you buy a Steem account with some delegation (15SP) with a Credit Card for $2,50.
I expect more apps and frontends to hook onto these entry points or create their own in the future. (I know Partiko is working on their own onboarding option for instance).
I'm 100% convinced that onboarding through apps is the way to go and the most organic experience for users.
Once these options are in place on most Steem apps the whole onboarding issue is then solved as far as I am concerned.

I love it too. Great to see these initiatives. Every 'problem' on the blockchain is slowly being stomped out by the community. Onboarding soon won't be an issue anymore soon.
Now, Steem will be much better at receiving the masses once they see the light :)
Lately I haven't been too active on the Steem blockchain. And now that I'm getting back to it, I realize how much development is going on! Even in just a few months so much stuff happened! It's so exciting!

I’ve told people to sign up for free via share2steem - is that wrong?
What are “RC problems” exactly? Trying to understand the advantage of paying for accounts when there are free options.

No, not wrong at all. I didn't know @share2steem was also onboarding users. Where they signed up fast?
RC problems:
The amount of Steempower you have dedicated how much you can do on the blockchain (comment, upvotes, post etc..). These actions all costs RC's (Resource Credits).
The more Steempower you have the more Resource credits you can spend in a day.
If you have a new account with a little bit of SP you the risk of running out of RC's preventing you from doing simple actions after a while. You will get an error message that you need more RC's (or Steempower). You then have to wait until it regenerates or buy and power up more STEEM.
Paid vs Free
The difference is that an app won't be able to onboard users for free indefinitely. They can do it for a while because having Steempower also means you can create accounts for free. But is limited. They will run out of RC's at some point with too much demand.
When the new users pay for an account this is not an issue. Unlimited onboarding is possible.

They recently added the option to sign up with as little as $10, which will create a new account, earn them the equivalent to AFIT tokens and also a 10 SP delegation for one month.
