The year of 1918 was a crucial moment for the Colombian economy, our country was in economic crisis due to the world war, the production and export of coffee to the United States was still incipient. The rumors of the end of the first world war during the year 1918, caused a significant increase in the price of coffee in New York, but at the same time the United States restricted free trade. It was in October of this same year when the restrictions were tightened and the volume of coffee exports was significantly reduced, although this impact was mitigated by the high price of coffee. What made the farmers find in the cultivation and trade of coffee a very profitable and attractive activity. These events give rise to the greatest economic expansion that Colombia has experienced, which reaches its maximum curve in the 20s of the 20th century. The coffee agricultural frontier expanded, this in turn created needs and their subsequent improvements related to the development of transport infrastructure, urbanization, industrialization, the birth of public and private institutions related to trade. This institution, from then on exercises the functions of regulation and monetary control, emits the colombian legal currency, manages the country's international reserves, acts as a lender and banker of the government.
