The Cook is the silent movie(obviously) from 1918. It’s stars Fatty Arbuckle as a chef and Buster Keaton plays his assistant in the kitchen. It’s only about 20 minutes long and is hilarious from beginning to end. I’m a huge Buster Keaton fan, and have watched many of his films. If you want to see some of his more famous works check out College, Steamboat Bill Jr or The General.

Many people don’t know that Fatty Arbuckle gave Buster Keaton his start. Before Fatty Arbuckles fall from grace he was an exceptionally popular comedian. For his size he could really do some athletic stunts. The way he worked at the stove is so creative, and how Buster is always in a hurry to keep up will make anyone laugh. The great thing about silent comedy is that it’s all physical and it really holds up over time.

The good news is films of this age are all in the public domain so they can be watched for free. An interesting fact about the film is that it was considered lost for over 70 years and the only surviving print was found in 1999 in an attic in Norway.
